In 2005 sold my Blackbird to buy 1150GS. It put a grin on my face every time I took it out, out to the Tyrol and back no problem, but thought I wanted an FJR 1300. Enjoyed the turbine torque, but the ease of achieving speed even with light use of the right hand was starting to alarm me due to more and more unwarranted restrictions on decent roads; so sold the FJR for a 02 GS.
OH DEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Same bike as before just, 2 years younger than my previous bike, and only 15000 miles. It just did not feel the same as the earlier bike. Did the tappets and end float, synched the injectors, had the tps side injector replaced, ratttling like a bag of nails, then added the obligatory y piece.
Still not right, it just was " fluffy" when revved and distinctly slow to respond, not like the earlier bike at all.
Then the light came on, the other bike did not have a cat code plug, so took the yellow ccp out, rubbish running. Then the Steptoe jumper mod came back to me. Had to buy a packet of spade connectors, they only had blue, which matched the paint so okay, no yellow wire, used white; love colour matching wiring to paint job.:thumb Incredibly the result it yielded was not affected by not using the exact colours in the photo posted.:augie
It worked well on this particular bike.
It now revs smoothly and is a lot more responsive and now my later GS has a happy owner. Thanks Mr Steptoe sir.:bow:bow

I've had/got exactly the same problem. My new 02GS exactly the same year, colour and everything as the old 02GS, apart from the new one has overdrive not sport 6th, runs like a dog in comparison. The fuel economy is much worse by comparison too. I ended up fitting a power commander which has fixed the fuelling and its great to ride but the fuel economy still sucks. 189 miles for 25 litres of fuel = 34 mpg (I took a jerry can out last week and rode it til it ran out).

So what does the jumper do?

There I was thinking it was just me as this goes back a few years.

Best advice I can give is search "Steptoe link", and search "Steptoe cat code plug". You will get loads of info, read through and you will even find a piture of this link installed.
Basiclly it is a piece of wire with a male spade connector( hef 125 halfords) on each end, that replaces the coloured cat code plug in the fuse box, if it has one or if it does not have a cat code plug it makes one; selecting a different fuelling map I think.
It works on some and not so much on others, according to the man. It really did work on mine, mpg improved as well, so read the thread, see the picture and try it if you wish.Do not know about using in addition to PC. As you have gone to the expense of a PC I think you should mabye stick with it.:thumb

and the answer to the next question is
"no, u cant fook owt up if u try it":thumb
