1150GS - What does the clutch switch do?

I assume the switch is just there so that you can only start in gear if the clutch is pulled in and it serves no other purpose.

Does anyone know otherwise?

Do you mean the side stand switch?

No, I mean the micro-switch that you can hear clicking when you pull the clutch lever.

so you cant start it in gear or pull of with the side stand down

And maybe not to run the bike just from the battery if in gear?

Ahh, that's the one the that allows you to start in gear

The one on the other side is the headlight dimmer switch

The Haynes manual.....

says and I quote......

The switch is part of the safety circuit which prevents or stops the engine running if the tranmission is in gear whilst the side stand is down, and prevents the engine from starting if the transmission is in gear and the side stand is up unless the side stand is up and the clutch lever is pulled in
