So I went to start my bike today and the dash lights were really dull, like hardly on at all.

Bike wouldn't start at all

I turned off the ignition and tried again and now nothing!

Battery is measuring a healthy 12.6v and the fuses al seem ok - was running fine last night!

Any ideas?

Loose battery connection.

I won't tell you know I knew. Might have been my own stupid fault :blast

Carry on... nothing to see here...

The dim dash lights suggest that it's possible that you might have a failing earth wire in the front section of the loom.

On the offside of the headstock you will see a section of the wiring loom that runs from just under the front of the fuel tank round and up to the dash. Move that bit of loom around and see if you have brighter dash lights.

What happens is that water gets down inside the sheath of the loom and gets trapped in there and rather than sitting there doing nothing at all it rots away at the earth wires. Steptoe diagnosed this fault on my 1150 almost two years ago now as my bike was doing the same as yours and it is a very simple fix. It seems to be turning out to be a pretty regular thing on older 1150's and is worth checking out.

Hope this helps. :thumb2

Just to add that a duff starter will be a possibility.

As I said, all fixed!

I'd not properly re-connected the battery after fettling with the starter.

All fine.

Totally my own dumb fault - but thanks for all your advice folks!

Left side of Steering head the Ign switch loom is routed to the connections under the tank

Turn on your ignition and gently move the loom and see if everything brightens

If it does the Green wire in the sheath is probably broken

You can just strip back and solder the two bits or even a chocolate block connector (filled with vaseline after you make your connection) Either wil "do" but a replacement loom is not that expensive

EDIT Ah well and easy fix But probably worth checking if you have a cable tie on the ignition switch loom anyway they usually were too tight and ended up breaking the wire

1150GS won't start- battery charged

I have a starting issue... I popped to the shops on my bike, 5 mins later I returned to my bike and it wouldn't start. All I got from starting it was a quarter turn and that's it. My friend helped me jump start the bike and away I went back home.

So I brought a new battery (Charged it myself) on the fourth attempt of starting the bike on that day the same thing again.

Could someone shed some light on what the issue might be.

Many Thanks

To put it in highly technical terms.......your starter motor is most likely fucked.
