Hi to everyone, have loved the GS series for a long time and about to take the plunge, found two 1150GSA models for sale at very good price but worried about milage on one, would appreciate any advice on how these bikes wear!

Option 1= 02 ABS model 21000 miles, insurance job just locks changed at £4800 service history unknown, Option 2 = 04(54) model 50000 miles one owner full BMW service history and metal adventure top box at £5300, good price I know but which one is the better buy?
Would appreciate any views here please, both bikes in good condition, no issues with seller etc

Can you afford the 04 bike?

If so, no choice, go for that one. You don't say if the 04 bike is ABS equipped. If it is, it is the last and most sorted version of the Servo-ABS set-up on the 1150 model.

The 04 bike will be twin-spark too. Do a search on 'surging' - I don't think owners of twin-spark models have really had much to say on the topic.

50,000 miles is nothing to worry about on any boxer really.

Lack of history isn't worth 30,000 miles if you can't verify it.

mines an 04 with 47k on the clock no problems except dodgy ignition switch{corroded solder} 50 k would not concern me with fsh

I don't thinks there much between them. both bikes are at a mileage where consumables might need replacing (brake pads or disc's), I personally would go for the 04 model later model might have wee twicks here and there to make a better bike also on the higher mileage bike if anything was going to break it would have done by now, it's abit squinity logic but it's kept me good in good steed

my previous GS an 1100 had 47K on the clock when I got it and it never missed a beat, my present 04 1150GSA has about 9k on it and the engine does feel different not as free to rev as the higher mileage engine.

if you do a search you'll see that high mileage boxer engines don't seem to cause any concern

No question, go for the '04 bike :thumb

The other bike could easily cost you £500 in unknown problems. 50k miles is barely run in!

Thanks for the advice everyone, will go for the 04 bike, really laughed reading some of the posts as a new member, obviously a very special bunch of riders writing in and devoted to what is the best bike on the planet!!
