I've tried searching back through the forum as I'm sure this will have come up before but I'm struggling to wade through the shear number of hits...so:

I've not been over impressed on my first couple of night outings with the performance of the lights on the GSA. I've had to adjust them to the limit of their adjustibility to see more than a few yards ahead of me but I still find I'm struggling to illuminate road signs (without highbeaming it and blinding oncoming vehicles).

Have others out there found their headlamps to be similarly weak?
What effective solutions have you found?

I've seen references to high performance (normal) bulbs [or lamps :mmmm ]...are these effective? I've also seen the HID conversions...these are clearly a little extra work and a lot of extra cost  ...are they worth it?

Thanks in advance...

Gs lights.

The only way to go is to fit hid lamps, they may seem expensive but how much would a prng in the dark cost you?. Have fitted these to the dipbeam on my GS and the difference is staggering, you can see!.
dave ( am I the only sad git working on his bike today, self inflicted xams presents!). GS.

Count yourself lucky that you asked the question on the quietest day of the year, otherwise you would have had 20 'only ways to go'. :D

HID kits can be found for £45 per side on ebay. I wouldn't recommend doing the main beam personally but some people have and seem happy. Migsel bar and FF50's for high beam, HID on dipped beam with Micro De fogs for safety. The best £250 you can spend IMHO.:thumb :thumb
Just make sure your battery is up to the job :(

I bought HID kits for dip & manin beam @ the Dirt Bike Show for £80 the pair.

Easy to fit once you realise what's going on, use of a 16mm drill bit makes it even easier. Check the length of the leads to & from the Ballast boxes. I was hoping that I could stash mine under the tank as I have a non0ABS bike but the leads were too short. They're located beneath the oil cooler.

Dip - better but the lens still does not provide a great beam. May try rotating the light unit a little?
Main - massive improvement, especialy on narrower roads.

FWIW I've got 6,000K bulbs fitted.

I did pretty much the same as Possu, but I got mine from hids4u.com however, I did manage to get one where the abs should go and one under the beak. Much better.
Mike.

HIDs it is then...

Thanks guys :thumb

Looks like the primary option is to fit HID lamps. Seen a couple of posts mentioning hids4u.co.uk so will probably shop there.
Just need to save my pennies now

HID4U are at least £30-£40 dearer but there service is usually good. Ebay guys are usually 3-4 weeksdelivery but kits are good quality and 1/3 cheaper.
Pay yamoney and take ya choice.

Aslo fitted HID's to both lights. Fantastic. I doubt that I will bother adding any extra lights. Alignment needs to be checked to get the most from the claimed (and believed) 300% increase in light output.

I paid my money and bought from HIDs4U. £200. Tell them you are a member of UKGSER and use a debit card for max discount. The cables are long enough to reach back under the tank. I got both ballasts under there on an ABS 1150, one either side of the headstock. Check out other posts from me for a couple of images.

I have got PIAA HID bulbs (dip and main) on mine (GSA1150) and it has totally transformed the bike at night. I have bolted both amplifiers on the underside of the beak. Expensive but worth every penny.

Or if you fancy budget but fairly effective instant gratification pop down to your nearest Halfords and get some 50% brighter bulbs :thumb

Migsel Light bar, Hella FF50's and Micro DE's

Now adding lights to my 1200 but don't need the Micro DE's as dip is much better than the 1150 however main isn't much to write home about so that will be helped by the FF50's
