hi i bought a 1150gsa in september i got it and put it in the garage on a optimate charger, the tank was 3/4 full of fuel, i havent started it at all so my question is when i am ready for a first ride will i be ok with the fuel been in there so long or do i have to empty it out. Is there any treatment i should put in or just get on it and ride. thanks

If it starts without problems then you'll probably be OK Just top it with new stuff after a run out :beerjug:

I think you should be OK with the volume of fuel in there. Most bikes in the UK don't turn a wheel for 5-6 mths...bet none drain and refill.

If, you put a litre of Methylated spirits in the tank, any water will bond to it and be burnt off, it also increases the octane rating slightly too. After that, next couple of tanks Super unleaded, which is ethanol free.

Good luck.

Get on and ride. There is a fuel stabilizer you can get just put in the tank and run the engine to make sure it’s circulated trough all the bits and pieces. I use it in the lawnmower sometimes at the end of season. If you want to use it do so at your last ride. No point in using it now. JJH

I'd hit the button...

Me too, both my 1150's were put away on 31st Oct 2017, with at least half a tank of fuel and haven't been touched since - just on a battery charger for 1-2 days every 6 weeks and then charger removed
I do it every winter, same procedure and I just start up in Spring and ride off

I rode a Trial on Saturday, my 23 year old Yam 2 stroke trials bike hasn't been started since before Xmas, she had a full tank of premix (how quaint)
Turned the fuel on, pulled out the choke and she started 2nd kick (how quaint) and ticked over like a good'un whilst warming up
Ran for 3 hours at the Trial, carburation (how quaint) was perfect and pulled from zero revs to the redline without no hint of a splutter and that was on a petroil 2 stroke mix

Your GSA will be fine, stop worrying

However I do only use Super Unleaded now, in all my petrol engined vehicles

Starred my Honda monkey bike today after parking it up since last September, started second kick . Old 1978 guzzi fired up for the first time in a year :D

So is the scare about modern unleaded petrol unfounded ?

What? That it's coming over here taking our jobs?

I've used petrol which is years old in bikes in the past and never come across a problem. Six months is nothing - as you've attested to. If it has been several years I'd be looking at the carbs/injectors as appropriate for the varnish old petrol seems to leave behind, but I've yet to find fuel that has been stored in a bike's (or car's) tank ythat hasn't fully supported combustion...

I'd recommend having the tank off once in a while and pouring the dregs out.... it can be a real eyeopener at the amount of crap that comes out...!

My petrol lawn mower has always started after 6 months stuck in a shed for winter. A few of my bike collection have fuel 5-6 years old and start ok an their annual fire up :D

Next September, give me a call, I'll be happy to keep your bike busy over the winter.

Started my 19 year old boxer for the first time since mid December. No bother on it. It was outside for that time too
