After selling my 02 GSA and riding Triumph Tiger 900EFi (which is fantastic) for the few months I am considering going back to a beemer as my commuter/tourer etc so here it is Do I go for a 800GS or a 1150GS? I can pick up 2K 800GS for a mere £5K which is a deal and a half but I will have to keep it for at least 3-4 years to keep her happy and the fact I do 25K a year commute I keep thinking I should go for a 1150GSA again. Please can anyone offer some sensible advice on this matter. cheers

The 800 will be a lot more fun, and much more economical. Plus you get the benefit of modern technology. The 1150 will probably wear the miles better, and in standard trim will be more comfortable. What price a 77k/102k 800?

Whats your commute a day? If it's high enough I'd be on the GSA - big tank for longer trips between fill ups, probably better weather protection, comfort, reliable

I had a GSA before and though it was a great bike but I just couldn't handle the bulk. Now I have an 1100GS with GSA tank

It wasn't a GSA but I had an 1150GS until December, and have had an 800GS since then on which I've done 4000 miles. Most of my trips are 25 - 40 miles each way, though I've done many longer ones and a few 170-180 mile journeys.

I loved the 1150GS, but I'd keep the 800GS over it anyday. Possibly because the 1150's saddle had endured 50k miles, but I didn't find it any more comfortable than the 800's. The 1150 offered better wind protection (I had the GSA screen), but I'm still happy with the 800GS on the motorway when I do go that way.

The 1150 had more torque and was better for lazier overtaking, but I enjoy being more involved in riding the 800. It still has plenty of poke for overtaking, but you might choose to drop a gear to really get it shifting past.

There's no contest when it comes to filtering.

With enthusiastic use of the throttle, my long-term average fuel consumption is 53 mpg, but I've not yet broken 200 miles range from a tank (192 miles when I deliberately ran it dry to find out). I've tried, but can't get 65 mpg for any length of time like some people claim, and I can't be arsed to ride everywhere at 40 mph. On the 1150GS, my fuel consumption mpg was normally in the high-30s.

Having also ridden a number of miles on a 1200GS, I can't see myself going back to one of the big GSs. The 800GS is, imho, far more fun and just as good if not better in many areas than its bigger brothers.

Did 200 miles today on my 800 GS before fuelling. light came on around 160, and that was nailing it in some places too. Overall well pleased with it,best bit of kit ive ever bought though is a medium cruiser airhawk seat pad :)

Thanks for the help!!!

Cheers for all the info, I am def considering the 800GS at £5000. should be ok for my 25k miles a year for 3 years by the sounds of it.

Cheers R
