1150GSA weaving

I have a 2003 1150GSA. Lately it has developed a distinct weave between about 30 and 70 kmh. Feels front end to me. Nervous wandering feeling - both the bike and me!

Front wheel bearings are ok, rear end is good (just replaced the paralever bearings with "Rubber Chicken" bushes. No movement there. Front tyre is good, back has about 10% left. Bike has 65000 k's

I am thinking steering head bearings but cant feel anything distinct. Has anybody got any other suggestions before I start pulling it apart? And does anybody know the numbers for these bearings (I'll get them from the local bearing centre if I can, not BMW genuine).

back has about 10% left. ?? could be this - or low pressure - i always over pressure as it gets low rubber to stiffen the carcass. try 45psi in the rear tyre see if it cures it

won't be steering head bearings - more likely the wishbone ball joint.

The rear tyre on my 1150 GS has about 4mm left and is very square. As soon as I ride over anything on the road - white lines, joins, cats eyes, ruts, etc... - it puts the bike into a slight weave.

Replace the rear tyre and see if the problem goes away. If not, start checking the other bits. I'll bet you 2p it's the worn tyre though.

Haven't added a lead lined top box lately?

May also be worth check-tightening the lower fork bridge and front wheel bolts.

Hi there, I recently fitted new Continental Trail Attacks to my bike and it now has a similar problem. Turns out it's quite a common problem with some Conti tyre's. You don't mention what make you've got fitted? But then again, if this problem has only recently started, on existing tyre's, it's most likely to be more to do with wear of one (or both) of the tyre's.

Not lost a balance weight, have you?

same here ive just fitted trail attacks and the bikes developed a weave but only at slow speeds up to 30mph after that its fine its driving me nuts to the point of biting the bullet and getting another set of tourances

ive put about 1800miles on them but no change its never threatening just a gentle weave when slowing down - backing of the throttle.

but not under acceleration pressure im running are 34 front and 36 rear

I had exactly the same problem with a set of Tourances, noticed it within a mile of fitting, full story listed here. Ended up with a replacement.

im taking it that it was solved when the new tyre came through then

its odd that the same problem occurs from different manufacturers tyres with completely different tread patterns

i think i'll have to have a chat with busters this week

Yes it was fixed.

Aren't Conti and Metzeler the owned by the same people

possible i spose most of these tyre companys are linked in some way nowdays
