Height Issue

Hi Bill

Cant help with the physical sit on bit but I have a GSA1150, 31.5" inside leg, so thought this info might be useful.

To make it comfortable to handle, (& still cant get feet anything like flat on ground) I fitted standard GS length Ohlins (you also need the standard GS centrestand, the sidestand is fine) with Sargent low seat - the BMW GSA low seat is like a plank after not may miles - don't go that way. I'm told that fitting the shorter shocks does improve the handling, but as I only rode home from the dealership & then fitted them I personally can't really comment.

You really do need to be in full control at low speeds / standstill as the bugger IS a heavy beast, & when the tank is full there's a lot of weight carried high up. Despite this it really is a great bike, massive road presence & solidly made - but the 1200 is more nimble in the twisties, but a good rider on an 1150GSA (Hi Micky :bow) can really hustle the beast.

With these mods the bike still looks exactly the same as any other GSA (except for the lovely yellow Ohlins :D) - I agree that fitting the GS subframe does spoil the bike's looks.

Does you local dealer not have a bike you could try, worth checking.

Hope this helps

Ade

I'm 5'10ish with a 30" inside leg and manage fine on a standard GSA.
It's more a question of getting used to handling and ballancing it rather than seing able to get both feet flat on the floor.
I'm only about 10.5 stone and the biggest issue for me is not having enough weight to stop it pulling me off my feet when it starts to get away from me:P It's never been that big a problemn though:thumb2
You can get a low one piece seat that might make it easier to start with but the original style one piece seat is crap anyway. A sargent or corbin is the way to go.

I'm in Cardiff on Wed 6th May if that's any good to you. The 1150 GSA is booked in for its service at Mikes at 08.30. :thumb2

cheers for your replies

still in the land of limbo, i rode around a car park on 12gsa and liked it then took one out from southport superbikes (cheers guys) and found i didnt like it so have been looking for a 1150, might just spend a few quid on my gs as its low mile and only issues are a bit of corrosion which wont take much sorting, will be good for a couple hundred thousand :thumb, but still looking as always :D

Hi Pm me when you get back from Spain. I have an 1150 GSA with the bmw tin boxes, and both size seats you could try.:thumb2

I am 6 ft tall with a 33 inch inside leg (No shoes) and with the standard seat I can only just about get both feet down flat with the suspension on its lowest settings. So you need to be looking for a 3inch height reduction.

Cheers,

use tiptoes, why does every one need both feet flat to the ground nowadays?

If you can only touch the ground on tip toes on flat ground, you will buggered if you have to stop on uneven ground and once a GSA1150 starts to go, they take some stopping....trust me :blast
