I have an 1150 GSA 94 and have just returned from a marathon run down to Jerez for the 1st round of Moto Gp. Whilst away I noticed that my rear shock was a bit damp at the base. On closer inspection i found it was hydraulic fluid. The bike is not 2 yrs old and has only done 14k, has anyone ever come across this before? I have always been well within weight limits when touring even with the bird on the back and don't keep it on the side stand when being stored. Also the digital fuel gauge is on the blink, even when fully fuel the top bar of the gauge is not illuminated fully it just flickers on and off. Last but not least to my surprise I ran out of fuel after only 250 miles so i stopped the bike and tilted it right over on the opposite side to the stand (this was a trick i learnt from my days on Yamaha 660s there is always fuel hiding somewhere in the tank) i left it for a min then turned the bike over and it started. I then crawled to a garage and filled the tank and found that it only took 27 litres! Not very impressed I can tell ya!!! Any suggestions from the forum??

Errrmmm, the ADV tank has a link between the two sides , tilting it over would have no benefit whatsoever.
Shocks can, and do leak, some you win someyou lose, it happens , you may have just been unlucky, but with all things mechanical, they wear out and can go wrong.

Get the work rectified under warranty -

Cheers mate I'll get on it straight away. However ref the 2 sides of the tank being linked, that was also the case with Yam 660 but the pipe that linked them was so far up the tank it always left about a litre of fuel below it. A design fault that got me out of the shit on a number of occassions in Marrocco and the Australian desert.

Shock died on my last adv at 24000 miles. Replaced under warranty for new owner .My last petrol gauge was the same as yours. But dont worry, just use the odometer to track how much is left.

The shock on my adv. went about 30k after an outing on Salisbury Plains with Steptoe. Thinking about it he supplied the replacement too... could be a ploy!

Less gyros and yellow handbags might help prolong the shocks life!
