Reliving bike trips whilst sat at my desk....
Here's my reason for asking:

Trip in Sept: 10000 miles is a real possibility. we got two panniers, two roll bags, a top box and a tank bag (smallest baglux).

I have packed and weighed all the stuff so far and the grand total weight to be carried over the rear of the bike (so, through the subframe struts) is 235KG

The breakdown is as follows:

165KG rider and pillion (Fully Clothed)
70 KG Luggage (inc pannier and topbox weight as well as 10 ltrs of fuel in two green jerry cans)

So far we plan the following: Loose 10-15kg from the two passengers  :(

Only fill the Jerry cans if we are facing a particularly long stretch (unfortunately, these stretches are probably going to be the bumpiest too)

Perhaps relocate the Jerry cans by slinging them over the tank using old seat belt as a harness (acknowledgements Vern :thumb ), But would they burst if the bike fell on them?

The only viable choice for reducing weight is dumping some of the tools and spares, but they only add up to about 8kg in all. Camping stuff and clothes are at a minimum any way IMO.

So, has anyone carried this much on their 1150GS and not retuned home with a banana shaped back end. How else could we manage?

Carry all that and More!!!

Just returned from a trip to Tassie (approx 4000klm's) Two Up towing a trailer which weighed around 120kg + Rider Pillion combined 165kg.
Fully loaded Touratech panniers with extra stuff on top + Touratech tank bag with side panniers attached + Tent and Swags on the rear.
R1150gs Adventure carried it all no sweat!
I'm not sure about the all up weight, but it was a f---king lot mate!!!
We did mostly bitumen roads with about a 150klm's of reasonable dirt thrown in, I'm sure your bike will cope no worries.

1150 Gross Veh Weight (GVW) is 460 kgs (GSA is 470)

1150 'payload' is quoted as 211 kgs (GSA is 217) both are quoted as with "standard equipment".

I've weighed my GSA with my all my usual crap I carry on a trip and with me on it, it weighed in at 460 kgs.

I think the quoted figures are on the conservative side in terms of what it will actually cope with.

I reckon you'll be ok with the load you are talking about but it might be good to pack some tyre levers and cable-ties for your trip ;)
