Its a different spec bike from the 1190 Adventure so I've started a new thread.
There's still sparse info/reviews on the R
Here are some pics with Joe Pichler /Touratech

Here's a damaged one, with a Photoshop attempt at hiding the damage:

discussion here

No electronic suspension, more suspension travel, greater ground clearance.

Would any off road guru's like to comment on the advantages/disadvantages of 21" Front an 18" rear wheels? Does this mess up road riding ?

I've ridden the 990's and have to say the 1190 is definitely a bike that would tempt me away from my current GSA.

Would the larger spoked wheels compromise road riding??

Arguably yes (well, there's no arguably about it - larger spoked wheels are going to flex more..), but it's all relative to who you are the rider, and what ones idea of a compromise is. I think it's probably fair to say that many riders wouldn't notice much of a difference.

I reckon the R version is probably over kill for many unless you are a serious traveller that really will take it seriously off road.

I'd be very tempted with the standard 1190 :thumb2

The R may be overkill but it just looks so much nicer than the standard 1190.

I've owned an Adv 950 S,a couple of 950SEs,one of which I still have and have ridden the 990 many times.I've also owned 1100/1150/1200 GS/As but can safely say that the Adv 1190 is the most ballistic and best handling adventure bike I've ever ridden.

As Bike mag said this month, when testing the 1190 against the new GS12 Toilet:

"Leaping past long strings of traffic needs just a single flick of the wrist and cutting loose on deserted middle of nowhere roads, the 1190's so much quicker than the GS its embarassing"

" The KTM is the one that stands for the simple pleasure of riding. We'd choose it for a sunny morning blast and it's the sportiest".

I am not 100% sure that this is the R but the front wheel does look 21"
Possible R in black, must be a special, but lacks the crash bars:

I've looked and the screen mounts are identical to the standard 1190 and therefore it could take the standard screen or the optional larger touring screen. i.e a total of three available screen sizes.
It looks small here, but trust me it isn't a bike for small people:

It's not just a matter of flex. A larger diameter wheel will describe a larger arc for any given angle of lean which will slow the rate of turn somewhat. If I remember my physics correctly, that'll be offset to some extent by the greater gyroscopic precession of the larger wheel. However, in practice, the bike will steer more slowly with a 21" wheel than the model with a 19" front wheel. Not for nothing do the supermoto boys fit 17" front wheels to dirt bikes.

Now for a sound duel:

This could have been very nasty, if BMW can do it, then so can ktm;

I was on an all day Indian cookery course, in Bath today, but the highlight was seeing my first 1190R on the road, next door to the kitchen..... and look at its stablemate:
