1190 pillion footrest removal

Let the piss taking commence................

I've asked some stupid questions in the past and no doubt will continue to do so........but..........even I'm having difficulty asking this one 'cos it's potentially so stooooopid

So........how do you remove the pillion pegs? There, said it

Circlips on the pins have been removed and, I assume, you just tap the pins out and Bob's your uncle Well, I'v done more than flipping tap, believe me, and I've twisted and rotated and thrown things around the garage.........the flipping pins won't budge.

Any clues........please?

They are splined and a really tight fit. From memory, take the whole lot off ( mount and footrest) Get a bit of wood, place it on the ground, put a socket ( the correct size for the pin. ) on the wood. Put the pin head in the socket, the using another bit of wood and a hammer hit the pin where the circlip was ( this will the push the pin out without damaging it ) When it's flush with the footrest hanger use a drift or a small bolt to knock the pin out. Once the splines are out the pin moves quite freely. They are a very tight fit.

Real bastard of what should be a simple job. As above, they are splined and it takes quite some force to remove them. I drilled a hole in a bit of wood and set the hanger on it with my lovely wife holding it in position (no damage caused to the finish this way). Then whacked the pin using a 2lb lump hammer and flat headed centre punch. Once they were out, I filed the splines off as I need to take them off easily when mounting my panniers.
