Has anyone opted for the taller screen?
Wanted to know if it was any better for wind noise.
im sat at just the wrong height on mine with the seat on the low setting and I get buffeted quite badly at speed.

Wasn't sure if the slightly taller screen made the difference

thx in advance

I have all three 1190 screens by KTM for my 1190. It all depends quite a bit on what helmet you wear. With a normal full face, the standard and tall screens do a good job with the tall touring screen doing better, especially at higher speeds. With my Tour X, I find it difficult to get it buffet free and feel the small flip at the end of both those screens are to blame, along with the peak of the lid. I prefer the 1190 R short screen while wearing the Tour X, and the only downside is you do get extra bug strikes during the better weather. A new tall touring screen is £100, you could buy mine (unmarked as new) for £60 posted. Or, look at the likes of this.

Ultimately, everyone will get different results and it can be an expensive quest to find the right screen for your needs. I know from experiance in trying to find the best one for my Versys when I had it. :blast

I bought the largest of the KTM screens with the idea of using it for longer trips. Although it does give more protection I found that I experienced some buffeting on both the high and low adjustable screen positions.

I much prefer to use the short "R" screen.
As Davy F said above, you are more exposed and do get more bug strikes in summer but I find it better for the majority of the time as my head is in relatively clean air and I don't experience the buffeting I get with the taller screen.

Haven't done any 1,000mile day trips yet but have done 3-400mile days and haven't suffered any sore neck yet and I always use ear plugs so don't find the little bit of extra wind noise with the small screen too bad.

Have ordered the Givi airflow screen for a trip later this year, will still take the original R screen with me to put back on when over there and the cooler air will be more welcome (hoping it will be hotter then)

Can you let me know how you get on with the Givi screen? I'm thinking about ordering it and would appreciate your views on it.

Where did you order the Airflow screen from? Thanks !

thanks for the replies , theres no way i could bring myself to bolt that huge piece of plastic to my bike , Interesting about the smaller screen as I heard this before.
Off to catalunya in June so I might consider a small screen , not to bothered about the bugs , its the buffeting from the original screen that drives me mad
did you get any buffeting from your bigger screen Davy F ?

The big screen , for me, is much better on longer trips. I don't find it really noisey (I always wear earplugs anyway) and it gives me a smoother airflow over my lid. I got the touring screen as part of the comfort pack when I bought the bike (heated seats, grips and screen) and have only used it for one day trip to Scotland. In reality, I should just hold on to it, but I seem to swing between the standard screen and the R screen, hence flogging it.

My local bike shop is a Givi dealer so just ordered from there, mind you they won't be soon, they are shutting down in a couple of months, another victim of internet sales, they have been in business since the 1970's, will be sad for Sheffield.

Have to say, I prefer the short 1190 R screen. Don't know if I'll swop it for the standard screen for my summer euro trip.

I got a Puig spoiler for the tall, touring, screen, link:

It bolts on and is stable at speed, 120 mph (allegedly). Set to highest position, it kicks the wind over my helmet and gets rid of the turbulence.

I'm 5'11", so a little easier to get out of the turbulence.

I have a virtually new Puig tall screen in smoke with the adjustable spoiler which I need to sell, if anyone's interested I will post it up when I return from France, (haven't got time to deal with it before I go) you will need to be 6ft to see over it though. There is absolutely no buffeting, but I'm not quite tall enough to see over the top of it.

I have the taller touring screen fitted. I did my first decent motorway run today, and I have to say the noise & buffeting was the worst I have ever experienced on any bike!
I tried the screen at various positions, and the highest position was marginally less awful than the lowest, very tiring.
I am of average height - 5 feet 10" so it should work reasonably well for me. Quite how any designer worth his salt can "design" a windscreen that screens the wind so badly I do not understand.
On my Triumph Explorer, I used the standard screen in its lowest position (with some rubber washers between the screen and frame to reduce the back pressure) and it was vastly superior to KTM's effort.
I also have the KTM standard screen, so my next outing will be with this fitted to see if it's any better.

I'm definitely interested in the screen mate, when are you back from France ?

Hi, all being well should be back the 25th this month, you aren't too far from me, if you're interested you could ride over and I'll fit it with you to see if it suits. Ride before you buy, wish I'd had that option, could've saved me some money.

Just a quick note to say that there is another guy interested who when I've just looked to check pm' d me 1st so I will have to give him first option, anyway will sort it out when I get back.
