Anyone else running max preload on their R forks?
If so can you do me a favour please and whack on max rebound damping for me and see if it's WAY too slow?

I took my bike over to the IOM the other week, and set my suspension up whilst I was over there (the TT course is perfect for trying different settings over the same stretch of road:D). I'm fairly certain before I got it where I wanted it, I managed to wind the fork rebound up too much and made it like treacle before backing it off a touch.

Fast forward to last Sunday and over the course of a 450 mile day the front end seemed to be a bit off, leading me to have a lack of confidence in it and an eventual minor off. Post off I had a bit of a play with the suspension and the front end seemed to be bouncing up a tad quick so I wound on a bit more damping but it didn't seem to be doing a lot, so I wound on more and more until it was on maximum and it still wasn't doing much, and nowhere near slow, let alone that treacle like feel max rebound usually gets.

So if anyone can just confirm that it does get too slow on theirs, I'd much appreciate it, before I take it to the dealer to get looked at.

Thanks in advance. :thumb2

Be patient Adam Giles and Andres are both away at the moment and both have had a play with the settings, me I am just a numpty where this is concerned.

I'm not an expert on suspension but when I got my 1190r back in April I didn't know what the suspension settings were so reset them as per the handbook. I must admit I can't remember exactly what setting I chose as I didn't write it down but if I wanted to check that would be a simple rewind. However, as I am 6' 2' and weigh approx 19 stone I would have gone 1 extra click to stiffen up the front a little. This works perfect for me and the bike is as solid as a rock. Whilst I'm not the fastest of riders I'm not too far off. No chicken strips on my tyres. Point being is that recommended settings give or take a click or 2 shouldn't be that far off. Hope this helps?

There's a thread in here on suspension settings - I had mine set up by K Tech in the end as I wasn't happy with any of the recommended settings and was tying myself in knots with all the adjustability and combinations -the K Tech settings are in the thread. I've since tweaked them slightly but essentially they work for me.
I'm currently away, 2 up and lots of luggage and will add to that thread when I've finished playing with the settings for all the extra weight.

Anyway, Adam, I'll have a go on max rebound tomorrow for you and let you know.........

Not at all but I appreciate the effort. Thanks. :thumb2
I know how to set up suspension, the problem I have is with the bike as it is at the moment I can't. I'm 99% certain that wasn't the case prior to Sunday. In which case something had failed internally. I just want to confirm it before I bother the dealer.

Perfect, cheers fella. :thumb

Just back from getting bread for breakfast......

Full rebound on the smooth main road was lovely. On the 3 miles of country road to get there; jesus fecking christ!! Treacle is a great word to describe what the forks felt like......

So yeah, in short, max rebound makes a hell of a difference.

Thanks Andres, much appreciated.
Mine will need more rebound than yours, having max preload, but I'm fairly certain it's not behaving as it should.
Looks like it's a trip to the dealers next week.
Then maybe a run down to Revs in October...

Are you running max preload on the front?

I ran up to 6 (max is 8) with the rear on max (with Amanda on the back and all our luggage) and the front felt quite vague. I'm now back on my standard 4 (still max preload on the back) and the front is way more planted.
