Debatable if this should be in Ebay section or where, but probably of most use here :nenau

Nothing to do with me and I've no idea of the quality of these ones, but just came across these 11xx replacement starters from America at under a ton delivered......if you could get one sent over by a mate or are going to 'Merika anyway, could be a bit of a bargain buy :) ($70.78 over there, plus shipping to here)

Caveat Emptor 'n all that though :rob

Anlasser

Looks identical to the one I got off've German eBay for £60 delivered.

People have warned about these having weak castings etc. but mine (so far) is fine. And seems more powerful than the original - well it would, after having that daft tin plate rattling around inside the old one, shorting left, right, up, down and sideways.

Anyway, thing to watch out for when buying from the USA is that a) Customs and Excise (or whatever they are called nowadays) like to slap on their bit of Dash and the Post Office then slap on even more for the privilege of collecting the dosh for the C&E men. Could add up to rather more than is worth it.

As you say, caveat emptor and all that....

According to the blurb it also fits the 850 & the 1200C.

Seems to be a slightly different front case casting though :nenau

EDIT...the drive gear appears to be profiled in a different way as well......the broken one in my pics hadn't been used more than two dozen times and had only travelled a mile at most in the bike, so the chamfered edge (probably not the right term but DILLIGAF :D) isn't a wear pattern, it's design.

It's a good thought, and looks to be a decent deal. But, having imported a lot of stuff (music gear) from the US, the real cost will be more like £130. That's because you will almost certainly get hammered for VAT, which is chargeable on the purchase PLUS shipping. Then you have to pay ParcelFarce a tenner for collecting the VAT. Unless you get the seller to lie on the packaging you'll also get done for import duty. That makes it a bit more than a recon unit from Motorworks, delivered, or about the same as two of the German eBay cheapies. I bought one of the German ones, in the knowledge that it was so cheap it was worth a gamble, and so far it's been fine. My guess was that the casing break in yours was likely to be down to bad manufacture, and would either go very quickly or not at all.

Now, if on the other hand you have a pal who's going to visit the Merkins and is prepared to bring one back for you, 'tis a bargain indeed.
