Booked the bike into Pidcock's today for 12,000 service. First available date is 3rd November (must be busy replacing EWS ring antennas (two for me so far!)). Told to expect bill for £300:eek: Told them I didn't need a new bike, but to no avail.

I am perfectly happy to do all the work, including valve clearances, end float, balancing etc.) myself. However I want a stamp in the service book.

Any suggestions?

?

So you want them to guarantee and warranty your work. :nenau

The GT (06 K1200GT SE) is getting to be swapped for a new GSA in December and looking at comments on the forum, service costs for the GT seem like a bit lower than for the 1200 boxers.

For my 6K and 12K I paid around £150 and for the "BIG ONE" at 18K it cost £220 (£285 with rear pads). It's due it's 24K now and I'm expecting £150 ish again.

How come boxers (a simpler design etc) cost more?

What's the normal servicing costs on an 1200ADV?

6k was at Jeffries and all the rest were at Rainbow.

I am booked into Pidcocks on 1st Nov for my 6k service, wonder how much that will be.

How about £520 for 12000m service ( inspection + service ) on a 1200RT .

thought that I'd add my opinion.
1. servicing costs seem to vary tremendously with where you get them done so get a quote, thn get another quote and always know what it is that BMW reccommend is done at that service (rather than the dealer).

2. the whole simpler engine thing is nonsense - the R1200 lump is an incredibly complex device with very advanced engine management, just because it's a twin doesn't mean that you can tune it with a screwdriver and a hammer. If in doubt compare a Ducati 999,996 etc with the earlier generation of aircooled two valve twins - chalk and cheese.

as always "payer beware":augie

£300 is a fair price for the 12000 service (fair, as in, in comparison to other WBM dealers - whether you feel it's value for money is up to you).

Pidcocks are aslo one of the better dealers IMHO.

Stamps in the book are up to you - pays your money, takes your choice. FWIW I'm not bothered about them.

Me, I let Pidcocks service my bike whilst it was in warranty and now do 6,000 mile services myself and the 12,000 goes into Pidcocks - not because I want the rubber stamp or 'cos I can't do it myself but because I can't be arsed to do it myself :thumb2

I take mine to a privateer, ex BMW, and very good. Had a recent 36000 service which is not interim, 200 quid. I still get a stamp in the book but don't pay BMW prices. Find a good local person or do it yourself. If I had the know how, I would do it myself, far more satisfying in the long run I guess. :)

£273 for 12000 mile service and 2 year inspection at BVM Stroud. Since I got it back it's been super smooth and pulls like a train. Pretty good value in my opinion!

£323 for my 12k + 1st annual service. That did include the £15 for the loan bike for the day.

Coopers Tunbridge Wells.

One must remember how important that dealer stamp is all the time you might wish to claim on the warranty!

£170 - Bahnstormer Motorad ... admittedly no annual inspection, but got the 12k service , coffee, new ring antenna, stamp in book and got to watch them do their work - Great value in my book :thumb2

The best thing to do is ring around your local dealers before deciding which dealer to book your bike in with. Each dealer should be happy to provide you with a written quote :)

Pretty much the same for mine at Allan Jefferies' in Shipley......

Can't argue with that......:thumb2

£315 for 12k and annual service at BMW Sawbridgeworth.
He estimated £150-190 for 18k service and a whooping £500 for 24k service!

Just booked mine in today at Clarkes in Birmingham for the 12,000 service and Antenna/ignition recall..........£239.00, cheaper than Pidcocks by £30.00 as they quoted me £270.00 and they can turn it around in 2 1/2 hours so can wait for it rather than leave it there all day.

Just a thought

Don't know how they come up with that as the main difference between the `12k and 24k is replacing the spark plugs and changing the gearbox oil. Everything else is the same as the 12k service.

Have always used SLM in Caterham for sales & service . History on my '08GSA so far is :-
01/03/08 - New
07/03/08 - 600 mile - £100 (£264 before goodwill contribution !)
23/05/08 - 6000 mile - £195
25/07/08 - 12000 mile - £224
22/10/08 - 18000 mile - £213
