Does anyone know whether it is possible to have the clock set to 24 hour mode. I know that BMW can make certain changes to cars when connecting the software to their computer (miles to km, for example) but are there any BMW service people in the forum who may know this ???

I understand it can be done, but only by connecting to the BMW laptop thingy in the workshop.

Ask for it to be done at your next service

Went down to my dealer this afternoon and they couldn't figure out how to change the clock configuration. To be fair, their resident GT1 (sp?) guru wasn't around, so I will try again later this week.

On the dealer computer, it is CIP (Control-Initialisation-Programming) then CKM (Car and Key Memory) to a page with alarm, clock and miles/kilometers settings.

This is a US GS that has had the clock modified to 24h:

Very interesting....:) That would seem to indicate that both BWM cars and bikes use the same software to talk to the ECU. I wonder if anyone is making commercially available software to do the same thing. If bikes and cars do share the same software then it would be more viable for someone to write the software.

VAG group owners can use VAG-COM and having just visited the site, I see that BiM-COM is on the way....

With an appropriate cable we might soon be able to talk to talk to our ECUs.

If any of our customer's would like it doing at the next service then please ask.
As for the commercially available software, i think you'll be as lucky as a 1 legged man in an arse kicking contest.
You really don't want to know what it costs the dealers to have this "laptop" & software updates per month - its really quite scary.

One legged men must be getting luckier in arse kicking contests.

As I've indicated VAG-COM has already been available for quite some time. I've got it on this 'ere laptop and a OBD2 cable to connect to the diagnostic port on VAG cars. It's available as shareware and the registration fee for the basic version is $99.

I feel for you guys: I heard a number of US$2000 that BMWNA charges dealers each month for the lease of the diagnostic computer and associated cabling.

Doesn't mean that BiM-COM won't be a workable alternative. Unfortunately, the dealers won't be able to take advantage of the $99 down and no monthly fee plan. Such is life within the corporation.

Thanks MattS,

I printed your directions and took the bike in for its first service and asked the tech to change the clock to a 24 hour clock.. done.. at no charge!! how good of them!

Its not, is it ?
If that is "well cool", some of the things I have seen must be Stupendously supercalafragalistically freezin feckin cooooooooooooool

its all relative, Den.

i myself can manage to look at any clock in either 12h or 24h format and instantly know what time it is.

Also - i have a backup - on my wrist - in the form of an analogue device.

if things get really scary i have a device in my pocket that enables me to talk to people - that also can tell me the time.

the tricky part for me is that i have to add 9 hours onto them all - i really should think about changing them to local time - some time soon. :D

I wouldnt think it would be beyond the capability of a GS owner .. yes, even a 1200 owner, to tell if it was 2pm or 2am.
For starters, if it were 2am, it would be dark .. unless you were in the land of the midnight sun, and you would also be tired.
If it was 2pm, the sun would be shining [if you lived on Scotland] , and you would be full of lunch.

...must admit, I've never had a issue with the AM/PM 'problem'. Must be the fact that I sleep at night which gives me a datum:D
