wrist!
I now have a painful left wrist which, after reading the ongoing Ricardo Kuhn thread and after a chat with 2WheelHumvee I am blaming the angle of the bars.
Having wide shoulders does make for a rather acute wrist/bar angle and the more I think about it the worse it gets! Renthal twinwalls seem to be the way to go as Tobers and Cookiemonster have both done this with their basic 12s with excellent write ups. I think the GSA screen and winglets may reduce the options re the number of bars that will fit though.

As I can't find a Renthal dealer down here I will have to order bars from UK which means getting it right first time to avoid a garage full of expensive, discarded bars.
Looking at the twinwall dimensions I think the RC High 922 might be the one, it would be so much easier if I could offer the thing up against the bike prior to a purchase but that isn't possible.
Has anyone with a 12GSA looked at this already? Any help would be gratefully received.

Shenzi,

try a set of Nippy Normans up and back bar risers as well. These put the bars into almost the exact position as original, but with the reduced sweep of whatever Twinwalls you use.

Thanks Wizard :thumb I did think about that but I will try first without them. It is difficult to figure out what will fit, I may try to mock some bars in plastic conduit as near the 922 dims as I can get and see how it looks against the bike. :beerjug:

Wunderlich bar risers on mine - work a treat sitting and standing. 25mm ones - as usual swift delivery from the Wunderlich guys. Unlike TT who have today told me they've sent me a parcel I ordered so long ago I'd forgotten all about it - nearly 8 weeks!

I got the "Sebastian Tortelli" bend which, along with the risers from Nippy, made things all rather lovely.

Seriously, I think that bar risers are the answer. My old 1150 Adventure was the most comfortable I've ridden, but the new one does give me a pain in the left wrist - never the right. Having looked at the photos of the old bike, the only difference between the two were the bar risers fitted on the old bike, but not on the new. If I'd known they were so useful, I would have removed them before selling it. :mmmm

Thanks guys. I will go ahead with the 922 Twinwalls. My main problem is the angle of my wrist on the bars, risers won't help that, could make it worse in fact by pushing my elbows out. Maybe, like Tobers, I will find them useful after fitting the bars.
Watch this space.....

I'm with Shenzi on this, the amount of sweep back on the standard bars gives me wrist ache,a handlebar swap is on the cards for me too :thumb However I'd like to retain the standard hand guards and bar end weights, are there any issues with this arising from fitting Renthals?
I notice Touratech also offer a conversion kit, which,it claims allows the retention of standard hand guards,it ain't cheap but if it works it will be worth it :D

Touratech say;
"Magura AX-Line handlebar conversion fixing kit
BMW R 1200 GS for original hand protectors £ 123,14

With this conversion kit you will save about 900 grams in weight. The handlebars are fitted with special adapter sets so that the original hand protectors can be fitted. All functions and handle heatig are possible as always. Very beautiful, elegant appearance and technically very high-quality handlebars. Never was it easier to save weight than with this handlebar conversion set.
The pre-fitted Magura AX Line handlebars are supplied with the adapters.

So would I, Tobers and Cookiemonster fitted the original bar ends with a little bit of messing around so there shouldn't be a problem with the hanguards and all the gubbins. I did look at the TT option but I'm not sure that it will clear the screen and the winglets on the GSA whereas I'm (almost :mmmm) sure the 922 Twinwall will.
Over the weekend I will mock up some 922s in plastic and see how they look.

Nice one Oonyack :thumb :D :D :D I was trying to put my Tour X on my feet but I couldn't get the Roadstars to stay on my head! :D :D :D :beerjug:
