I'm in the process of making a charging station for my bike. The idea is to have a separate and removable 12 volt supply for things like charging Two way radios, phones, air pump etc with the facility to jump start another bike without sacrificing or risking the primary battery on the bike.
I suppose it'll be similar to the secondary battery in caravans.
This would be contained in a box along with other tools like a mini compressor, phone and other batteries whilst being charged. I'm thinking of using a Pelicase, containing a sealed lead acid battery connected to various sockets and leads.
What are the consequences of this with regards to ventilation?
The type of battery I'll be using is sealed with no vents. But do they give off gasses in some other way like sweating? I'll also have phone and AA type batteries contained within the box whilst charging. The main battery will be connected to the bike battery and therefore being charged whilst the bike is being ridden, but with a relay to prevent the thing being forgotten whilst away from the bike.
Should I be restricting the size of the second battery? I was thinking of using A 12Ah, or will this put too much demand on the bikes alternator?
