120 BHP GS1200

I made the same comment about the 24k service on a similar thread. It'll be a mistake to have big service costs embedded in the schedules for the GS. The exotic HP2 can justify such costs, but it'd effect used prices for a vanilla GS with 20k on the clock.

Either way BMW will have already made the decision re the engine. I think chasing more power is a real mistake, although there's always people who go ooo and ahhh whenever bhp is mentioned.

And, whenever a manufacturer says "detuned for more midrange" they actually mean just "detuned".

I think the power/torque/weight of the current model is fine - if you need more, you really need a different bike.

BMW do need to develop the GS/GSA - they need to stop it rusting and breaking down, anything else is just window dressing.

I think I'm beginning to sound like a fekkin 1150 owner now.......

correct, could not have put it any better:thumb2 (did not see this before last post)

My 100GS can get to over 100 mph, plenty enough for a ban in this fair isle :( takes a while though and cruising above 70 takes some effort to keep the speed up.

The 1100GS has a top speed of 121 mph according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_R1100GS cruising above 80mph isn't too hard.

How much quicker to 80mph is the 1200 compared to these bikes? And how often do you hold the throttle fully open on a 1200 (or equivalent, as this isn't a 1200 bashing post) not much.

IIRC there was a theory at bike that the smile factor on a bike was how often / much time you could hold the throttle fully open, more often = more :)

IMO more powerfull = more power at engine speeds you don't use.

Please get your tenses correct!

On the second line of the above quote you say It'll.
Surely you mean It is, because the present servicing costs (with a BMW dealer) are, in a word, Extortion.
Myke.
