does anybody know of a bigger aftermarket tank than the standard 20litre for GS 1200?

how many miles are you getting form a tank? (i'm getting around 165 miles - but would like to achieve more between stops...) thanks.

This topic has done the rounds, several times in fact.

There are 3 ways I know of to get more fuel into the existing tank.

1. Take your time filling it up to the neck - a long time!

2. Remove the rubber tube at the bottom of the neck (with one finger - it's reversable) and filling becomes a lot easier.

3. Drill 2 or 3 holes in the neck to allow the tank to vent properly during the last stages of filling. There is a comprehensive thread somewhere that I'll have a look for.

I've done 2 & 3 which makes 1 easier, much easier.

I normally get 190 ish miles before the little flashing petrol pump appears.

At the mo I'm on 205 miles and I'm still waiting - I must be slowing down, or the engines getting run in!

There is a bigger tank available but it's possibly the ugliest tank I've evere seen. I think it's Dutch made (Nico Bakker?) out of handbeaten aluminium & is definitely not cheap.

I ran rather low yesterday (projected 1 mile to go to empty) and managed to squeeze 22.05 litres into the tank--I've done the two tank mods Wraithrider refers to above.

The worst impact on fuel consumption is wind resistance. I did a very long run pottering around doing 40-60 mph on slow roads and got 288 miles on a tank.

This will be covered in the 1200 FAQ I'm working on - sorry it's taking so long! :)

In the meantime, look in the 1200 section for the thread "collecting technical wisdom" - I'm sure there's a link in there.
