1200 Dropped valve, doesn't matter if its Right or left cylinder

When you can;t afford a rolling road remap ???

Its the best compromise that I could make at that time

What is sad is that I had a Wunderlich system sitting waiting to go on to her!

If it increased fuelling to offset the perceived cold atmosphere it did a right good job for nearly 16,000 miles

@£300 for a postal generic map I am sorry I don;t see it as value for money, when its only another £50 for rolling road time??

Besides What influence would a map have other than to correct fuelling I struggle just at the minute as to how that should that reduce the risk of dropping a valve ? Of which 7 or 8 out of 10 of those dropped valves are right hand side exhaust valves ???

With lower grade fuels, the sparks fire late with all that wasted heat going down the exhausts. However, its supposed to be ok down to 87RON. Plain 95RON is top totty compared to that stuff.

The OEM fuelling is very weak so exhaust valves run hot. Hilltop say - under standard conditions the valves get badly stressed. But, judging by your spark plug colours yours was not running weak. Mine were white before I fitted the Power Commander.

Fully agree about saving just £50 by foregoing the rolling road run. The postal remap should be less money - it's not like Hilltop are struggling to repay their investment.

Somebody said lateral wear in the valve guides can be an issue. That could conceivably weaken the valve head/stem if its not landing square to the seat. But surely left and right would be equally at risk. There does seem to be a fundamental issue with the RHS cylinder. The majority of mechanical failures seen to happen on that side.

Exhaust gas temperatures would be interesting to know especially if they could be data logged.
