1200 GS buffeting whats the answer?

Best solution to cure buffeting on a 2010 GS standard spec. Helmet buffeting if you know what I mean is a nightmare.

Had an Adventure which was OK so was thinking of getting adv screen and winglets for the GS.

Any other solutions worked beter for you than this idea.

Thats the Cure or another aftermarket screen. My Se used to Buffet the New ADV does not

Givi 330 screen is supposed to be very good. Myself i have wunderlech extender,
from nippy normans, torbinators and winglets which work very well, no buffeting at all.

The AF330 with Winglets on mine is much better than stock screen, music is now audible at an extra 20mph+ so I know there is less noise.

Compared to the sportsbikes I am used to it is still a more "disturbed" sort of windflow, not so much of a whistle or whoosing at speed but more like irregular booming.

Reckon I am just gonna have to get used to it, I asume it is because you are so much further back from screen than you are on jap rocketships - plus moving head to just behind screen stops the noise / buffeting.

I had buffeting issue on my GSA with the standard screen. I added a Laminar Lip which helped a lot but in the end I bought a Ztecnik touring screen (tall) which works really well. I'm 6'3" and have the screen set to the second highest position, I can still see over the screen and most of the roadmuck goes over the helmet. The only downside is my visor can get misted due to lack of airflow at low speeds but Pinlock visor has now cured that issue.

Get a low seat so your snout is just looking over an Adventurer screen.

I went from standard Gs to adventure screen and winglets and tobinators and was still not happy with the result. It's a real pain on these bikes and has given me permanent tinnitus within a few months. met someone with exactly the same experience.

good news is that after removing the locating lugs on the adjusters so it will raise a few cm more I have finally got a quiet and turbulence free cockpit. IMO tinted adventure screen looks much better than the effective but ugly Givi screen but its alot more expensive because you need the frame too.

Earplugs every ride on this bike now - and its a joy to ride.

AF330 + winglets, I added vario screen doodads from wunderlich to get some air under the screen and problem solved on my 10gs STD. There is a thread on here about the af330 somewhere...

my 1200GS fitted with GSA tint screen and tinted winglets and low seat, wearing either arai rx7 or shoei and i cant hear a wisper its perfect the best ive ever had.

But!! GSA screen kit/winlets comes at a premium about £450

That's strange. I'm 6'4" and get buffeting on my GSA, or extreme wind noise depending on the screen setting. I decided noise was better than buffeting as I've got good ear plugs which make it much more tolerable. I've also fitted a wunderlich adjustable spoiler which reduces buffeting and noise further. I still get a lot of buffeting on motorways/dual carriageways though.
I had the GS a few years ago and this was worse in my opinion. Tried the tobinators and they made a little difference but nothing major.
The GS's have by far the worst buffeting of any 'sit up and beg' bike I've ridden. I do have my seat on the high setting on the GSA though, and it does make a considerable difference if I swap it to the low setting, but then my knees are cramped. On my old GS I have the high seat option set to the high setting.
ExpatinIstanbul I'm assuming you don't have the high seat option, or not on the high setting which is why you don't experience the same buffeting problems I've had?

I've never moved the screen from it's low settings. I have the front of the seat on high and back on low, to stop sliding forward under braking. I do have 2.5" bar risers, which make me sit more upright, this might make a difference.

Ditto for me and I've never had a problem (screen up or down TBH).

However, the GS is the first bike I have ever ridden with any sort of weather protection. I often remove the screen in the summer just 'cos it feels more natural to me! Because of this I wonder if my expectations are just a lot lower than other peeps

Any way, if you want to sit in still air all day at three figure speeds get a firiggin' old man tourer

The day I picked up my new GS12, the salesman went through all the controls etc before I set off. He also said that the screen was set to it's highest (ie furthest forward) as 'all GSers have it that way'. On the jaunt down the motorway heading home, my head was like a nodding dog in the back shelf of a car, really awful, and that was before I bought a TourX. A bit of experimentation with the settings and I eventually was happy with it at one from the lowest setting. Never felt the need to spend the dosh on bigger screens and anyway, yer on a bike pushing through the wind, bound to be some turbulance at some point.
