i would have thought the Elton John track"The Trail We Blaze" would be better for the R1200GS,,lol

Looking through your old collection for album tracks are we mate?? Show off :D

that would take far too long to go into my music collection, only have 1200gigs of hard drives on this machine :)

5600 miles

The gearbox on mine was replaced at 5,600 miles ('04 plate) Now has 14,500 on the clock with no problems.
However, very twitchy at the revised cost of extended warranty......mine is 2 years old today. Maybe BMW know something we dont now they have doubled the price to £600 odd quid
matkat

Warranty

I guess a lot of us have our bikes 2 years plus now. When I enquired at my dealer (Clarkes) last october the extended warranty was still around £300. I had a letter from BMW a couple of weeks ago(bike is 2 years old today) and the price has doubled, to make it unrealistic. Do they know something we don't !!!!!
My bike has done 14,500 miles now. Fork seals were replaced at 12,800 and the gearbox at 5,600. Apart from that no problems.
As much as I love the 1200 I don't think I have the confidence in it that I have enjoyed with any of my airheads. For sure if I was off on a long extended trip today it would be on my airhead G/S.............................that I believe says it all with the modern bike, its canbus system and the problems 'enjoyed' by us GSer's

FFS, is this thread about gearbox problems , or a social thread. Next time you ask about problems and help solving them, you won't mind if i start telling you about the colour of my bike and my record selection. :monkeypiz

no i dont mind you talking about the colour of your pride and joy, or your music tastes,:) :beerjug:

Wasn't this all about gearboxes?

I have just read a 50,000 km report on the GS - and they did have a gearbox fault on this bike - but the various testers tend not to bother with the clutch. BMW replied that a BMW box cannot be hurried (don't we know that!) and pointed out that this gearbox had now been fitted to 50,000 bikes, around 60% being GS's and had proved very reliable.
