I was just trying to get an opinion from Beemer riders in general on so called improved models, I am aware that you all know as much as I about the Adventure1200.

You seem upset, so try this:

Look in your mirror, practice a smile, no matter how long it takes,
and try to cheer up.

Ride safely.........and calm down!!!

Touche :D

Such a great site for getting that BMW spirit ......... not. Do yourself a favour Camel, take Fanum's advice, go ride the GS whatever it is then buy a KTM 950 and never look back :) Apart from to look in here when you're a bit bored and need a good laugh.

I'd suggest you try the Tiger and save yourself £3grand over the unreliable GS.

Tiger list price = £7000. 1200GS list price = £8710. Doesn't look like £3000 difference to me. I won't mention the dodgy finish on the Tiger or its depreciation.:D

No chains please...

No Tiger for me please. I do too much mileage, I go through two chains and sprocket sets a year, and that with the proper maintainance. But Tiger is nice looking though, if only it had a shaft.:)

1200GS list price = £8710.

Oh dear. Big test of honesty here Bob. How many posts here have we chosen to ignore where retail customers have been shocked at the price of a useful 1200 being in excess of £9,500, even £10,000? I seem to recall me finding it difficult not to smile when the figures were presented to me last November by a very fat, smug salesman last November...

It would be a big test of honesty if you stepped out of your dreamworld and admitted the truth about yourself. But there is more chance of a politician being honest than you:D

A lighter bike isn't always a better bike.

The 1150 GSA handles in a particularly amiable way that has mysteriously endeared itself to many.

Take away the 30kgs?

It's not just lard; you know. It's not as if the extra weight has just been plonked in, say, the left hand pannier...or even out there in front of the right hand headstock like the stupidly positioned battery on the FJR 1300.

At least some of it is crucially positioned designed in added weightiness which gives a unique feel to the bike and most importantly elbow room in the critical damping stakes of the bikes overall dynamic qualities.

I think that one of the great things about the current 1150 GSA is the perfect balance it achieves between its weight, real world road surfaces and todays tyre technology.

New lighter GS Adventure's won't do it for me unless:-

A. We get better rubber from the rubber people.

Or:-

B. We all smooth our way over to live in the Peoples Republic of Boundless Tarmacadamia.

Or:-

C. ....or I rationalise on the Ohlins purchase?

PS: I've just realised that everything I've said probably sounds like a complete load of ballast. But I'm not swinging the lead; honest.

Lighten up....at your peril!

ADV weight

I agree why is the trend for these bikes need to be lighter and faster.....the very thing that you dont look at when buyin one of these bikes. The ADV is not the fastest ot the lightest its but the 1200 seems to be following the trend set buy many other companys Honda etc ..lower sear, faster ,lighter the they lose what made the bike so atractive in the first place...ready to be shot down in flames Stewart

lighter weight

Slystewart -

when you load up your Adv with pillion and a load of camping gear, does it accelerate quicker, stop in a shorter distance, or go round bends better than it did when unladen? If the answer is NO, then QED!!!

Met up with ALEX the Camel Spirit 640 at Boxhill today....
Hardcore (IMHO) rides a KTM, wants BMW GS to run alongside the KTM, does minimum 15000miles/year.
For todays ride, came from WALES to do some off road here then back there again....
Heres the man admiring JJ's bike,

the picture i want of alex is his BMW jacket on his KTM :P

and what is alex doing at box hill?...... thought he had more taste then that!

alex, don't wait for the 1200gsa..... you would have got well cheesed off with your chain before you can get your hands on one. also as you cover so many miles for your green laneing the GS would just chew the motorway miles for you.

if you can afford a bmw jacket you can afford a 1200. :beerjug:

Buy the GS. Picked mine up this morning after its 600 mile service and, despite the weather here, it was great to get back in the saddle.

Personally, I love the bike and now hate using my car.

I'd post a photo but am useless with these things.

Order it now and have it run in for the summer - you know you want to!
