1200 GS rear shock replacement

Howdy guys

I have an 06 GS1200 with 36K on the dial. My rear shock has started leaking fluid and the ride is to say the least....bouncy.

Looking for a replacement and my local BMW dealer wants £700 for the privilege.

Anybody out there who understands and can offer some constructive advice will be on my Xmas card list for life....summer is coming and I am grounded

Check out www.motorworks.co.uk they may have a secondhand unit. They are not difficult to fit. Also they come up on Fleebay £50-£70 if I can remember.

Definitely. Top people for bouncy bits. Almost any aftermarket shock will out perform the standard one for less money.

I agree, rebuilt my oe Tiger shock and a cracking job they did too

They are fitting Wilburs to mine in 26 days.

They sorted my last bike too - which was modfying the OEM units, made a big difference for a (relatively) small price.

As stated pretty much any after market unit will be better than the OEM ones. An entry level Wilburs or Nitron should be far better and considerably cheaper than an OEM unit.

Yes I got a quote off them for a service and fitting a better spring to carry me the mrs and luggage all for a measly sum of £180, it will be sent off to them shortly.

I have a good friend who's father started this company http://www.ast-suspension.com/bikestreet.asp he has made me shocks for my Buells and many of my friends bikes, I am asking him if he could make ones for BMW. The quality of these units is second to none, they are not cheap units, but could be cheaper than genuine BMW and far superior. Every single unit is hand built and dyno tested, I cannot convey how good these shockes are. Every single click of rebound or compression makes a noticeable difference, I am waiting for him to reply to my messages, if he decides to make some all I will need is a unit for him to dismantle and get dimensions etc, watch this space

Top service and if I remember right it was around £85.
Also do a postal service.

I was told buy the dealer to just replace it as they weren't that much!
Once I'd come round after the quote I was pointed to these by a mate.

Take the advice and forget the OEM shock...speak to the boys at Revs racing who supply Wilbers...a new one with a remote resevoir will be about £500. I have a full set on my GS1200....awesome difference.

They also take in used ones and recondition them so may be able to get cheaper.

Alternatively I have an OEM 07 rear shock laying around in good nick you can have for £60 posted.
