Has anyone fitted engine crash bars over the metal cylinder head protectors that come as standard on the SE?

Are bars to fit over the protectors available and is a good idea to double up on the protection? I would like to keep the protectors on but am not sure if they will do a good job of protecting the heads in fall overs or low speed falls.

Cheers
Harry

I have the SW Motech ones fitted from Nippy Normans with the covers, they fit no problem and saved the scuffing the engine when it fell over in Italy this year.

So well worth the money as far as I am concerned.:thumb2

Needless to say the BM ones fit a treat and do the job well. Mines had several offroad tumbles & the combination of both is necessary IMHO.

confused re engine bar response

Thanks teejay and pinkytiff - pinkytiff, my dealer says the BMW ones won't fit with the guards the SE comes with which is why I asked for advice. Do you have both the metal cylinder head guards and the BMW std engine bars fitted? Sorry for doubting you but just wanted to be sure before I tell the dealer they are wrong!

Hiya, I believe so yes. Mine is an 07 GS12. I bought from Vines with the crash bars already fitted as well as the adventure spec head guards. I'll take a pic if you need one?

Hi Harry,
I just fitted a set of SW Motech lower bars to my SE,and yes they will fit with the head protectors already attached, although the bars are extremely close to the protectors if not touching.I don't know if this will become problematic later but all seems fine at the moment.
I would recommend you use copper grease or an anti-seize grease when fitting the new bolts.:thumb

thanks guys

I will go back and ask the dealer to fit based on your responses which are appreciated :thumb2
Cheers
Harry
