Anyone experienced similar noise? 12 plate,4000 miles. When shifting down into first and releasing clutch, whining noise occurs.Thought it was the scuffers behind me at first.Sounds like a dry or overloaded bearing rotating.only in first gear.Gearbox filler plug magnet has a lot of swarf on it.I fear the worst....

Doesnt sound great tbh... But why fear anything? Warranty time!
Should start fearing after year 3... Thats when it becomes expensive...

12 plate......

Back to the dealers, you have the benefit of a warranty, why not use it ??

warranty

Yes,Im aware of the warranty situation.I seeking a little technical enlightenment:augie

But what are you scared of?:nenau Take it to the dealer and stop trying to guess what it MIGHT be.:rob

fear

Im not scared of anything.Just asked the question to see if it was a common malaise.Wondered what the dealers approach would be to an internal gearbox fault.Repair or renew? Have Corsica trip planned in 2 weeks.

It's likely to be "let it develop" unless the noise is so loud that it's obvious something inside the box is about to make a live appearance :blast

take it to them to check if it is something common. "they all do it sort of thing"...

By how you described it (and by evidence of older 1200 motors on a GS and an R I owned) I don't think mine were that noisy.

Unusual to have magnet on the filler plug, any photo of the swarf? If there is any swarf, it is a serious problem. A few furry bits not so bad.
