I'm sure many of you have already seen this.... in fact it may even be mentioned here in the 1200 section.... but for those who aren't aware, there is a small recess in the front right hand side of the 1200 GSA (Under the fuel tank). It also has a couple of threads, ready for small bolts to fit a short rubber strap to. (The recess is beside the R/H fork leg).

Nippy Normans do a 0.8 litre plastic bottle, rubber securing strap and 2 bolts, which is an exact fit for the space. Fill the bottle with oil..... (please don't start another "which oil" thread), secure it and always have a spare with you.

I just ordered and fitted mine this week. Ready for my Morocco trip in a couple of weeks. Means I dont have to worry about using up some valueable pannier space for a bottle of oil.

Ref the postage, the default when ordering was for big items like exhausts..... I changed it to the second cheapest option for items like (ACF50, Horns, extenders) this was £4.68, which I thought was fair.
All in £17.50 delivered.

By the way, I'm nothing to do with NN, but thought it was a great item.

I didn't know a litre of oil took up sooooooo much space!!:augie

2 weeks time I will be half way to Morocco. I'll have enough stuff for a fortnight's holiday, including spares, tools and camping gear. So for some of us, yes.... a litre of oil takes up sooooooo much space!!

Does anyone know, is this just the GSA or does the standard GS have it also?

That's handy. :)

mmmm I'm not so sure, I've seen just how abrasive life is for trail bikes in the chalk and clay conditions around here. I've recently been replacing nuts and bolts on my 450 that have been worn away buy just vibration and a thin layer of dirt.

I can only imagine what fun, fine sand and a kilo weight would have vibrating unseen against the side of your fuel tank.

Enjoy your trip mate. :thumb2

Yep, have a good one! :)

Just the GSA 08-09. Not sure on the new one.

I've seen plenty of people on here slagging this product. Obviously they are happy having a bottle of oil splitting and covering all their belongings in their pannier when the bike hits the deck and would rather lose a litre of drinking water out of their panniers at the expense of some spare oil.
I guess they can spare the time, inconvenience and life giving necessity for the commute into the city tho.

Personally I think its a great (if not somewhat expensive for what it is) solution that you can just fit and forget until such a time as you need it, regardless of how many of the world's deserts/home counties you are crossing.:augie

A couple of sticky back foam pads stuck into the recess first will soon stop that from happening...

Also saves the worry of the oil in the panniers going all over your kit if the unfortunate happens:)

It does't but when you have thrown away perfectly good clothes because the bottle of oil in the pannier, wrapped in a plastic bag, has leaked synthetic oil and you discover that no known detergent can remove it, then you look for a better method of storage.

So far I have used a TT bottle holder on the pannier but this bottle looks like a good idea.
