Damn, now I need to plan another round the world trip to justify buying it

A lot of people here are bagging the large fuel tank as overkill. Granted it is more than 99% of people will 'need', but a big tank is sure nice to have. And it is great that travellers now have a decent option for long trips (On my last trip on a F650 Dakar w/TT 39 liter tanks I still needed extra fuel on some stretches). For those who don't need it, just stick with the regular GS and leave the rest of us alone!

bike shows

With all the bike shows in OZ at the moment have BMW sent the GSA down under? Big show in Melbourne and big bike show in Brisbane this weekend and one next month.

We drove up to DC for the Cycle World International Motorcycle Show last weekend. I learned the 1200 GSA would be there, and having reserved one at my dealer, I wanted to see it in person.

The bike did not disappoint. I've met GS owners who seem very interested in citing any number of reasons not to like or buy the Adventure, but when I looked at the two bikes alongside one another, I was glad not to be saddled with that baggage.

Almost embarrassed to post such poor quality photos, but they are all I managed to get...


Partial Integral ABS..............is that non-linked - but still Servo assisted brakes (Check spec sheet in last pic!)

Thanks Johnny, the pics have answered a personal query of mine which no one else seems to have been able to answer.

That was ... after the posting of Zmeagol/Tim Cullins excellent post of hi res 1200 GSA pics.

They were great but none showed the pannier frames
So what you say

Well having seen them now my worst fears are realised, I just hope they are easily removed, as I wouldn't like riding around with the boxes on just to hide the frames between trips.

IMHO they are very ugly and totally spoil the appearance of an otherwise fine looking machine.

The standard 12 GS pannier mounts are almost invisible, spose thats the price we pay for Ali panniers

I have the same fears, but unless being used, mine will be coming straight off, as soon as I get it home. I will not have anything spoil the lines of the bike, except when I need them of-course, I doubt they will be too much trouble to remove.....Keine Problem, Kammerade...

I attended the DC Motorcycle show and saw the 12GSa. It really wasn't that much different from the 12GS.

Anyhow, here are a few pictures of the various bikes I saw:

R1200GS Adventure.

Nice bike, taller, too tall for me.

You can see how impressed I am.

I might try a test ride to see if the screen will work better. Looks like it might.

That tank is big, but I bet the wind protection in winter and rain will be pretty good.

The salesman said the crash bars will definitely be standard equipment, and therefore not listed.

Strange thing to say considering what IS listed, but he was a bit of an arrogant ass, so I blew him off. He works for Bob's BMW :

Anyhow, not a bad show, and BMW had some great bikes on display. The K1200GT, R1200GSA and R1200S were all preproduction bikes, the GSA was number 4. Well done BMW!

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!! The pannier frames hold the backend together
