1200 GSA Spot light brackets

I'm really sick of popping spot lights off when I drop the bike off road. You only have to look at them and they pop off. The plastic brackets are not well designed or strong enough IMO...

Has anyone found a mod for the brackets or a suitable replacement that doesn't cost millions of pounds?

I was going to get in touch with a fabrication company to see if they could manufacture something from metal, but I imagine it would cost serious wedge.. Seems you can buy no end of alu brackets to protect things that aren't in any vulnerable places, except the spots!!

... Check out 'migsel.com' for a 'traditional' light-bar

... Or despatch with the factory holders and bolt direct to the upper engine bars

TT solution may cost a million, but it works. To fix:

1 Remove old BMW fogs, keep bar in place
2 Fit new lights, either TT (fog/Xenon) or the like with TT-type mounts
3 (For looks) remove (with grinder) the brackets from the old bar

Bottom line get the new lights mounted above and behind crash bar

Do you not reckon it would be possible to replicate the stock plastic housings in aluminium or something? Could they be made by laser cutting 5mm ally, or would they need to be moulded?

The best and the second best

My 2c: I'm sure there are almost infinte possibilities. In principle, to me the best solution is to avoid getting hit. The second best would be to add protection (to some level). In real life it is often a mix that strikes the best balance. As to the BMW fog lights, there are just to exposed in their original position imho - if you expect to test strength with Mother Earth from time to time

Arrived today! Fitted them to the bike already.

Initially when I unpacked them I thought "Oh no, talk about FUGLY!" but actually they look pretty good and suit the bike well when fitted. I got black ones, as I think they look a bit more discreet

I reckon they'll take minor to medium knocks and protect the plastic spot bracket OK. Looks like a heavy knock will bend them sufficient to break the plastic bracket underneath anyway, but I'll let you know in due course.

Might not be a bad idea staying upright but the occasional spill is inevitable when laning

Next move if these don't work out is to try and have the plastic spot housing cast from metal...

I've got a similar "test" set on my R1150GS and I tipped it upside down when offroading a little while ago with no problems to the lights, guard or mounting bracket.

So you shouldn't have any problems with them.

Dropped mine and the Rugged Roads protectors did what it said on the tin. Spots still in one piece. Now I just need a protector for the protector as one of the mounting lugs on the protector has snapped

Yep,dropped her once green laning,3 times in half hour in the snow and the lights where still good

Thats happened to mine as well, thing is i haven't dropped my bike, it seems on mine the bend at the bracket has just given way over time

I wonder if it can be repaired somehow, or maybe i'll get in touch and see if they sell them separately.
