Afternoon everyone,

Had to get the train to work this morning :tears

Started my bike and immediately the engine started hunting between 3000 and just above stall. This has happened intermittently before but usually sorts itself out once warm.

Only this morning once I rode away; upon closing the throttle and pulling in the clutch the engine died twice.

Any ideas?

Read from previous threads it could be spark plugs? or could it be related to the fuel pump failure posts?

Any help greatly appreciated

Jon ;)

Fuel pump controller more often than not just 'dies', end of.

Could be plug caps/coil packs?

Or, I've had the TPS connector (small plug on side of injector) fail and do similar.

Is it on one pot or both?

If you can't easily tell carefully feel to see if one exhaust header is hot and one cold(er).

In the interest of safety I would never advise anyone to feel their exhaust headers, carefully or otherwise. I have burnt myself quite painfully on my headers (after only a few seconds of engine running) during home servicing.

Best to use a household plant sprayer to spray a water mist on each exhaust header and see if it steams off instantly, or flick/splash some water droplets on it. If you are really posh and have access to a laser thermometer I'd recommend using that. Whatever you do, avoid touching the headers during or after the engine has been running, you could badly burn yourself.

+1. Good point. Only takes a fraction of a second for extreme burns from headers. Pain fibres in nerves are very slow conducting and you'll have a third degree burn before your brain can say ouch. In fact you'll hear sizzling before you react. DAMHIKT

You can feel the heat off them without even getting close! Appears to be both playing up. Still got bmw assist so they're on their way apparently. Fingers crossed...

That was what I sort of meant, I didn't mean 'touch' the pipes - you can feel if they are hot or not long before you're actually touching them. Mind you, I did a Mayers Briggs personality profile thingy at work last week and apparently I'm well into 'red' meaning I'm a risk taker :D

Any way, doesn't sound like any of the things I mentioned if both cylinders are doing the same - good luck :beerjug:

Twas a faulty throttle potentiometer. Sbw in hertford swapped it out for me then and there. Happy ending :clap
