1200 Lights - help and illumination needed

Fanum, yesterday went like this:

Get up early to allow extra time to get to work (0645)

Get ready to go in bike gear.

Walk 1 1/2 miles in bike gear carrying helmet and tank bag with work clothes in. Arrive at garage V sweaty.

Panniers already on bike as dropped off previous evening when bulbs changed. (Parking free near bike after 1800!)

Ride bike to work 23 miles away, get changed at work into teaching togs.

Last day at work (I quit) so all work kit, running gear, books, videos etc packed into panniers at end of day, after I've changed again.

Set off at 1700 heading for Jefferies and Charley at 1900, (reason for riding bike to work) journey with fuel stop and headlight adjustments take 1 hr 50 min. Very busy on A65, lots of trucks and slow cars. Get to Jefferies just in time.

Leave Jefferies at about 2130 home at 2230. Walk back home with tank bag and lid. Knackered.

Today drive down to garage to pick up panniers and do fuel tank mod while I'm there. Bike needs a clean but will have to wait for a dry day.

And so on. Tis the perils of living in a Victorian Terrace with views over Kendal and the Fells. Truth is a part of me would rather live in a semi with attached heated, powered and lit garage with a hosepipe and powerwasher etc. but my lady would see it differently.

So if you know anyone in Kendal who has garage space to rent?

;)

the left/right adjustment was completely awry. At least 5 to 6 turns to be precise.

I've found the up/down, but how d'ya do the left/right? My dip's OK but main beam is virtually non-existent. Maybe the hedge is getting lit instead of the road!

IMHO Osram Silverstars well worth the money - although I have found in the past that quality does vary from set to set.

BTW, anyone tried Nippy Norman's proper HID conversion yet? At over £200 it needs to be good and I'm not sure he's designed a kit for the 12gs yet.

The left/right adjustment is via a same sized black plastic hexagonal screw on the rear rhs of the light unit. Clockwise to bring the beams to the right.

Darn it, I was at Jeffries yesterday too, we probably bumped into each other without realising :)

In fact I parked next to a red 1200 with a single pannier (right hand side) fitted ...

Shocking the number of people who turned up in cars though!!

Top info on bulbs big lee, never been interested enough to do any research to date. Might go for a new pair of H7's from ebay, seems a reasonable price.

I also fancy putting a pair of discrete mini-fogs on the 12 when the light bars are available. I'm assuming they can be wired up using NippyNormans auto switch thingy. Don't like the mods some people do making the things look like a lambretta.....right cheezy IMHO.

Must admit, I haven't been out of areas with streetlights in the dark yet, so cannot really judge how good the lights are, but I can say that they're no worse than my CBR's.

Wraithrider: I don't know how you put up with having the bike so far away. I've just built myself a big garage down the bottom of the garden for the bike and its bloody fantastic. Just nip down in my slippers and do a bit of fettlin when the mood takes me. Used to have the bike outside under a tarpaulin and it was a pain in the arse. So to have a bike 2 miles away must be a real hardship.

You need to move house.........bugger the views:D
