My 2017 Triple Balck GSA is booked in for what will be a 12000 mile, 2nd annual service. The service chap tells me it need new plugs, filters and final drive oil (plus the regular service items I guess). Quoted £485. Seems excessive, but does that match what others have paid. I'm thinking of getting quotes form other dealers

Changed your mind about the brake fluid?;)

No, I deleted my previous post because I mention valve clearance checks.

If he's only done 1200 miles, he wont need all that.

I can't edit posts on my phone, so easier just to delete it....

I Just had a 12K miles service with Cannon BMW. Service was £424 with a new Anekee rear and new Rallye centre stand guard supplied and fitted
Service £172
Tyre £144
Center stand guard £37
Plus VAT
Where they got your £485 GOD only knows:nenau

Blimey, Allan Jefferies in South Yorkshire want £320 for the 12k service alone for the same model. Had mine done at the start of the month and feeling a bit ripped off now!

Hmm, I thought the 12k service included cam timing check, as carried out by Warlord? Your £172 is only for a short service.

Short service?
It was the 12k mile service. Annual. Everything was done that is listed on the service interval sheet.
Nothing else required.

An update - After a couple of minutes on the phone I got a price for the service at Lloyds, Carlisle - £300 for what appears to be exactly the same amount of work - plugs, filters oils and valve clearances. Slightly inconvenient but I'm off there soon. Cancelled the appointment at my local dealer and told them why. No offer to price match!

I can not see how it can be so different in price ?
I have the service receipt and the breakdown of what was done.
£172 full 12k service.
Its potty

Chaps. Just a heads up on these service costs. When they check the valve clearances they use new rocker cover gaskets which cost about £40 each IIRC. Some dealers do and some dealers don’t replace them which might account for some discrepancies in costs. I asked for mine not to be replaced unless they leaked on refitting.

The only way you can really be sure about what is being charged for is to ask for a full breakdown of costs which I do on every service so that I can challenge accordingly before they do the work.

My receipt shows everything including ancillary washers. No mention of rocket cover gaskets .....
Interesting. I'll ask my dealership about this.
Thanks for the heads up.

Regarding changing the cylinder cover gasket.

For what it's worth:
The BMW manual specify reuse of the gasket, but replace if damaged.

Some dealer apparently change the gasket every time. If I should make a educated guess to why, this gasket is the same type that was first introduced on the K1200S (not sure if the first R1200 has one as well). On the K12 there are two half-moon shaped recess cutouts in the head in order to slide the camshaft in, and there are two half-moon shaped bumps on the gasket to fill them. You had to seal the corners of these bumps with grey silicone sealer. This sealer was time consuming to remove, so it was cheaper to replace the gasket than to clean it, unless you did a DIY jobb. On the 1200LC there is need for time consuming cleaning, but I guess it's an old habit by some… (but I may be wrong…)
