1200 or 1250 GSA?

If it were me

1250 GS would be my choice

The GSA is unnecessary for me as I dont need the extra fuel range or the faux extra off road ability and it is too heavy

The 1250GS on the other hand is a rapid enough bike with loads of low down grunt decent handling and touring capability

All of which we already know so the question really is which you prefer or if you really need 300 miles range rather than 200

Tricky is a tad left field,so I reckon he should get the new Triumph Tiger 1200 .Big tank option also available.
More power, lighter and cheaper than a GS with more toys as standard and newer tech.

Never found the 1200 engine lacking on my previous 2017 1200GSA.

I like to take things easy mind!

yes more fast you go more fast you have no license, 1200 is super bike yes 1250 is a little more evolution, but how much evolution you must have is personal choice on pocket, small mile 1200 at very good price and warranty and hoping it is not bike with side effects.

I have had many new GS bikes, according to my wife, too many. The 1200 is a fine engine, it is road-friendly and can crack on.

When I switched to the 1250 it was OK, slightly better box, more torque thingies but not shout out loud better. Then I did some miles, most of my riding is in the Alps, and started to realise it goes like the clappers if you use the revs.....it will happily drive on to the red line whereas the 1200 gets breathless. The cam adjustment really kicks in if you are throttle aggressive. So 1250 can be benign when ridden on its torque or MTS like when ridden on revs.

Globebusters used to steer people to the GS away from the Adventure claiming the weight was a hindrence.

^^When i first test rode the 1250 i thought it was a sports bike engine in an `adventure` chassis..

Maybe it’s time for a V4 ………. Just saying .. more power, more tech , lots of toys .. but fuel maybe an issue 😂 along with the cost 🙁

Agree and nothing lacking on my 2014GSA with 114bhp @7706rpm and 116.49Nm @6.315.4rpm
A 1250 has better stats, but not £10k better than my 1200 GSA TE
The current asking prices are truly bonkers, but perhaps I'm being an old fart

Three years ago I was shopping. Rode the GS1200 and the Tiger 1200. I found the GS motor kind of unexciting, (for me, ymmv) and bought the Tiger. Fast forward 3 years and 40k miles and rode the 1250, and bought it. The change in motor characteristics sold me, smooth, tractable, easy to ride puttering around, but when you ask it to go, it moves. Best of both worlds, slow and steady when you want, sporty and willing when you ask.

Went for a three year old 1200GSA with 9k on the clock and a 2 year warranty. :thumb2

Same excuse as me, I’m a rapid enough rider when I want to be and my old Hexhead can still rip when I want it to. A £10k cost to go marginally faster with a bit more bling is just not justifiable for me so I’m spending a few hundred tarting up my old bike instead.

With the introduction of PCP and affordable monthly terms, the retail price of vehicles just got silly and stayed that way.

That red bike looks lovely Tricky, I hope you get lots of pleasure from it.

Well.

After a pleasant year with the 1200 GSA I’ve decided to jump to a new 1250.

I think it’s old early 2022 stock because it has the fancy headlights (whereas anything recent has halogen lights awaiting new LEDs as they become available again).

Pick it up tomorrow. :thumb2
