Noticed this morning that one of the headlight bulbs on my 1200rt had blown, so shot off to Halfords and purchased a pair of super bright H7 as a replacement set-all good so far. Then started with the right hand bulb and took about 15 mins to replace and a sore hand from working in a confined space. However as I was replacing with uprated bulbs had to change the left side also. Unscrewed the waterproof cover which fell into the fairing and I was now unable to fish it out ( only a left handed dwarf could work in there). Ended up with having to take off the side fairing just to fit the new lamp and find the cover. Certainly not a roadside job, taking in total 1hr 30 but that did include chatting up my neighbour!!
Lets hope the new bulbs are worth it.

bulbs

You can be excused chatting up your neighbour if that is her pic as your avatar!

Did my n/s one the other day, as you say it is a nightmare just to change a bulb and not a roadside job!

Never had a problem fitting bulbs just the fact that it seems to eat them!!! JJH

Have managed to changed the bulbs with tupperware on. But much quicker and easier to remove one of the side panels.

At 1.5hrs that you quote glad I'm not paying you BMW prices to change my lightbulb!!

I think more like 20 - 30 mins tops to do job. I think nothing of it to do these days.

Yes bulbs have to be changed nearly every year or 6000 miles.
Maybe my Ohlins are set up a wee bit stiff - but I like them that way :augie

No problem*.

Thanks Guys

Clearly there are a lot of issues with this but all I can say is it's flipping tough. What I want to know Is why I need to change them so frequently as in my car they last for a very long time. Good old BMW it is the joy of owning one that keeps us so young!!! don't you all agree. Anyway I'll know exactly what to do when the lights fail on my bike in the Alps this summer

which fell into the fairing and I was now unable to fish it out ( only a left handed dwarf could work in there).

Bought myself a pair of these a while ago. They have saved much grief over the years.

Mine is 3 years old and never yet replaced a bulb - not huge mileage but have now done about 17000 miles.

I did try changing a bulb before a long trip last year just to make sure I knew what I was doing and by taking the side pannel off it was a piss easy job - yes its a ball ache to remove some panelling but if I didn't want the panelling I would have stuck with the GS.

Wouldn't ever get a dealer to do anything more than I have to - not just down to cost - just like to know my way around the bike - if your touring away from home and you have a few niggles it helps to be a little "practical"
