Thanks for the constructive comments from the people who left them and who took the time to reply. It has to be said, what you wear does seem to make a difference.....leathers seem to be better than the Savanna trousers i have. I might try an Alaskan Butt pad as a first stop.

Just to add to your considerations.................I have now done 5000 miles including a few long days and miles in the saddlle.............All of it done on a Melvyn Hunter reconstructed Gel Seat. I don't think it matters what you wear, but is dependant on the structure of the seat. The standard BM seat is too soft and therefore requires a "close core foam" as opposed the BM "open core foam" This is according to Sargants seats .

I have found the Melvyn Hunter seat to be extremely comfortable and reduction in comfort until about 240-260 miles. Whereas the BM seat used to be uncomfortable after 40 or 50 miles. No more sliding forward, better support of the thighs, no lower back pain and no more tingly numb bum after such short a short time on the bike.

However I have read somewhere on this forum that the longer you keep the original BM seat the better. Can't contest that cos I had my replaced after about 500 miles.

Haven't tried any other manufacturers so cannot compare seats.

THese are only personal views and are not intended as the "experts guide"
Everyone is different and therefore "Not all sizes and shapes" may suit the seat I use.

Finally the cost of having both seats completed was £200. Not the £400-500 required by other manufacturers.

All usual discalimers apply.......I have no business connection and am not related to Melvyn Hunter seats.
