Still not sorted the rorty standard exhaust.
Rather than try another end can has anyone had the end off the original one? Peering down it the twin exiting exhaust pipes seem quite short and I was thinking of perhaps extending them (inwards) in the hope that it would quieten it down a bit. It shouldn't affect the mixture too much I would have thought, if anything perhaps enrichen it a little.

Any thoughts?

Changing for de-cat headers makes a better noise imo, but at the same level. If you want to cut and shut - try the cat first.

The standard exhaust is loud large and heavy. Silk purse and pig's ear come to mind. Put the OEM can away where it can't rust to refit when you sell the bike. Ideally do the same with the stock headers. They do rust.

I have a twin can "shotgun" Acraprovic that's fine with baffles. Brother has a Remus Hexacone which is fine without baffles and would be very quiet with.

Xtreme Stainless at Hixon Stafford will sort you out with a new can and a link pipe for a very reasonable cost. This could be a win win because there is enough space on the left of the bike for a full size luggage case AND a 100mm wide exhaust can. For some reason BMW decided to angle the exhaust so had to hack the side case as an afterthought.

One word of caution while the the Xtreme workmanships is superb, the baffles I bought were not as effective as I would like. However less noise = more flow restriction so that's not a complaint. A plain ordinary universal baffle does a great job for very little cost. Mine are 30mm on spacers into 48mm outlet stubs so they don't clog the system. A 48mm long baffle would really reduce the noise.

I like the rorty sound of my stock TC exhaust once it gets on song.

I think they believe that you are after MORE noise!
The TC is quite loud even when standard but it's not to everyone's taste.
You could pick up a second hand silencer on eBay quite cheaply and cut it open to see what can be done. Might be to a lot of peoples interest to see some pics if you decide to go that way. Make sure that you get one from a TC. The later ones have a different length of pipe than the SC's.
I'm guessing that it's not going to be easy to get a noticeable reduction in noise without reducing performance a bit. Exhaust tuning is a bit of a black art and even though a sports exhaust is noisier, very few produce an increase in power. I'm guessing it's not hard to get a reduction in power when quietening them!
How difficult would it be to get an exhaust or even a complete system from an RT to fit?
I think they are much quieter and maybe it could be made to fit with a few mods.
Or just use earplugs. At the risk of awakening all the deaf old gits, you should be using them anyway to protect your hearing from damage from wind noise.

I have resisted the extreme temptation to fit a full Akra system onto my 2014 GSA.
I had a full system and PC on my 2010 Twin cam and it was sweet.
Didn't cost a huge amount I got the system at a trade price and quickly resold it after I traded the bike.

Have you checked against another bike that theres not a fault or something with your can ??
I have an OEM end can lying boxed in the garage if you want one, just pay post and its yours, personally never felt it was too loud, changed it on my old TC for an akro slip on so the oem has only had 1500 miles,

Have you shined a torch or shoved a bit of wire down the headers from the back to check the cat is still there?

Are you riding with the panniers on? I have a 2011 GSA and when the panniers are on it is also very loud. I think it resonates as the pipe ends inside the pannier. When the panniers are off and the top box on it is much quieter.
Made to measure ear plugs are the best solution.
A grand for an Akro' can, really!
