1200 tool kit....

Alec
the hook wrench can be used to adjust the front suspension.

You need a Torx T45 bit and a 22mm socket to remove the front wheel and a Torx T50 wrench to remove the rear.

I just made a Webpage showing the two toolkits, listing the contents of the original, and pointing to a custom list-of-tools generator I wrote some years ago. The page is at http://www.r1200gs.info/misc/toolkit.html but I'm not going to link anything to it until I get Tobers' and alecmuffet's okay -- as I used their photos.

I wish UKGSer.com would let me send email to the original authors, that would make some things so much easier.

Here are the links to the tool kit list generators I did: one for dirtbikes and one for long-distance riding -- though either could be a starting point for a completely custom list.

I intend to update the R1200GS tool kit page with a fairly substantial toolkit suggestion sometime in the near future. Assuming Tobers and alecmuffet give me the okay to use their photos...

I remember reading recently (don't know where, of course :blush ) that all 2005 bikes are coming with the reduced tool kit. If my next Adventure doesn't have the same kit, I'm sure my friendly dealer won't mind me swapping them over.

Regards,

Charles

I've got the 'full' toolkit. I'm sure there's a plastic gizmo widget missing from the pictures. I suspect its the ignition coil puller quoted above.

That's fine by me, so long as I get cited. 8-)

You might want to take the big version of the picture and resize it to be the same size Tobers'.

Update: oops, you've already done that! :D

No - I've got one....its just not shown in the picture, which may mislead people.

Hi.

I have the full tool kit with mine.

If anyone wants it i will gladley donate the said appendix.

I have never used mine because the numerous times i have needed one freck all has been any good as none has been needed, all i needed was the little phone number on the rear side of the key fob.

BMW Emergency breakdown thank you, in times of need it's nice to know you don't have to bother with any tool's.

And any one that knows me knows all about my friday bike.

all in all I STILL LOVE HER.

Regards.

according to page 111 of my rider manual (R 1200 GS collected in Oct 04), the contents of the toolkit are as follows:-

1 screwdriver, reversible blade
1 open-ended spanner width across flats 17mm
1 spark plug socket spanner
1 puller tool for direct ignition coil
5 Torx bits T20, T25, T30, T45, T50
1 hook wrench for suspension strut
1 extension for screwdriver
1 socket wrench, width across flats 22mm
1 tubeless tyre repair kit.

Hope this helps.

My 1200 is only 5 days old and page 111 in my 05 manual does not have any tool kit contents. There is no mention of a tool kit in the whole manual.
The tool kit that came with the bike has hardly no tools.

Good Service from Cannons in Chelmsford

I recently Emailed Bill at Cannons in Chelmsford about the naff toolkit and spare key issue having bought my 12 there in July. After a bit of confusion and to-ing and fro-ing my shiny new upgraded toolkit arrived today and a spare key is there waiting for me to collect it.

Top marks to Cannon. :thumb

...not in the US

No such luck here. Multiple email exchanges with BMW only brought some ridiculous justifications for a sub standard toolkit and a plastic key...

Have you tried the approach of telling them that BMW(GB) have been upgrading the toolkit and supplying a second key? And I believe BMW in Canada have also done the same too.

Tools-for-R12GS.jpg

My kit.

Admittedly, it is a bit much, but it has every tool needed to fix anything short of a total engine rebuild, and it only weighs 21 pounds! :eek

I didn't ever use the factory kit in my 11GS either.

Yeah Jim, like a few tools along for the ride myself. I find the cabinet lashes on across the top of the panniers nicely.

I'm a wheelie god :thumb

"Lite Flare" - Is that a pack of distress flares? :D
:D Its an electronic flare that you place on the ground behind the bike. 3 flashing high intensity LED's that last for 12 hours.

I didn't buy it, I won it. :D
