1200 vs 1250

I guess just raising the bars on the yolks also brings it back by the rake angle by a handy amount?

could get messy using yolks

the 25mm raise, so to speak, worked for me. I just wanted to reduce the lean forward not sit upright. 25mm is not going to give much of a change at a 27.7 deg rake angle.

My bad, Yokes! Yes, I reckon I might do the same. An inch higher would be perfect. I was surprised at the ample legroom but the high seat helps there. Very comfortable riding position. Hope to take the bike out tomorrow, as don't have time tonight...it was delivered just an hour ago. Minter.

hope it's a proper one in lupin blue

if you want to sit on a bike with the 25mm bar risers and lowered pegs, let me know. You seem to be just down the road. I'm not doing much this weekend, just pottering about in the garden but quite happy to be interrupted if someone wants to buy me a coffee in the Cotswolds or Forest of Dean :)

Not a bad shout. Busy with family things this weekend unfortunately so best I'll manage is a 10 mile quick 20 minute ride :( Hoping to stretch the legs of the RS next week when I have some more time, the beauty of being self employed is working hours can be very flexible :)

Work is over-rated. I have a zero hours contract aka retirement.

Lucky man! It can't come soon enough for me....

There is no denying that the gearboxes on the LC motors getter better thorughout the development cycle of the model . I recently rode a 2023 which was was better then my 2019 which is better than my 2014. I'm talking about the chnage from 2nd to 3rd at low-ish rpm's.

Mine's a 2018 and the smoothest box I've had from any of the previous 3, the last being a 2016 GSA. I don't understand all the angst about the gear assist either as that seems to work flawlessly on mine too. I did note that the final drive shaft housing doesn't have the removable rubber bung on the underside they fit on new models. The only minor disappointment was the dynamic ESA only comes with two modes, road or dynamic although it has the full suite of preload options.

I got home yesterday from a wonderful 2500 mile Euro trip.16 days.

The bike purred along as always. Never missed a beat.

At no time did I covet a new bike.

The joke on the ferry dock at Ijmuiden was ”Is that your dirty bike?

My reply - “Yes, it was clean on day 1 just like your Showroom bike

The bar conversion from BMW is only £120 on there configurator where the Wunderlich one is by far more expensive, I had that one on my 1200RS and it made the bike all day comfi so well worth the money
in answer to 1200 or 1250 sorry but its 1250 all day long, forget the TFT if thats not your bag but the engine is so much more willing and the torque on the 1250 is great Ive owned both and now looking at the new tri coloured one again to replace my 3 month old Vstrom 1050XT Tour, which is an amazing bike to be honest

I must admit that as good as the 1250 is, I didn't have the funds to buy a one or two year old low miles example and have always found the 1200 more than adequate one up or two up. There's always "better". If I buy another, and that happens to be a boxer, it will most likely be the 1250 next time. I never buy new. I buy bikes with generally under 10K miles under 5 years old and well maintained. Someone else has done the running in and suffered the majority depreciation for me that way:LOL:. I know people often say "what about the warranty?" but if I thought a bike was going to be unreliable after a few years, it wouldn't be on my list in the first place.

As for bar risers, I didn't have the luxury of ticking a bmw options box as I bought a 2018 bike. I've now committed myself to the helibar riser kit which I'll fit later in the week. I agree with you though that the best option in the first place would have been to find a bike with the bar conversion already done. In making a do it all bike, I think that a bike has to have a primary redeeming feature and a slightly forward position doesn't in any way make riding in twisties any better for me. It only serves to aggravate neck and lower back pain. The Tuono V4 and s1000R, and the MT10 are proof positive that an upright riding position doesn't in any way make road riding a less rewarding experience so BMW imho ought to have had the bar "option" as the standard in the first place.

well I've gone all ways in 6 years

Singlecam hexhead, Twincam LC & back to a Twincam aircooled

All had pro's and all had cons ..

The LC is very refined and the toys are nice, but just that, toys and nice

Going back to the TC, i miss the digidash, quickhift & cruise

I dont miss the ESA, ASC, stability , red plug etc etc

sometimes simple is better

I agree. I prefer the LC engine though having had the air heads. I'd miss the additional grunt but I don't see lack of tft or the other toys as a disadvantage, even though I do have most of the other toys on my current bike. Most of my touring has been done on fairly basic but reliable machinery.

I just bought this literally yesterday. It’s got Heli bar risers which seem very natural in their positioning. I’m 6’1 with longish arms so I guess would have felt ok without them. It’s a 65 plate so probably the earlier, less than smooth gearbox, but hey, I’ll live with that. I was looking at 1250’s or 1200’s, happy to have either, I don’t think there is any issue with the 125bhp 1200 lump, the 1250 may be better but that doesn’t make the 1200 bad.
This was a one owner, 3,800 mile bike, 5 main dealer stamps, though on mileage it could have been fine with just two. Over serviced for the warranty I guess. The best bit was the £7200 price tag. I couldn’t say no. It included a Nav V with factory mount too. Happy days.

That's a great price. I paid a fair bit more for mine, but it's a 68 plate and came with full luggage and 5K miles plus loads of other extras including a Navi 6 but I'll still hang on to my Navi 5 as I've read feedback suggesting the 6 has proven less than reliable!

Sorry guys I take that price back, after finding the RS I wanted Fully loaded with every option but without ESA I went to order the Bar conversion from BMW and its £395.87 so I ordered one from Nippy Normans £275.00 I just hope it dont take 8 weeks like my last order from them !!

Just fitted the Helibar risers and they've done the trick. Much better riding position.
