Clutch cylinder seals.

Rather than replace the slave or master clutch cylinder you could just replace the seals. The R1200 clutch uses hydraulic fluid (As opposed to brake fluid) you can buy replacement seals from your local hydraulic seal supplier. I think they are urethane. Cost me NZ$20. About 8 Quid I think.

My seals failed because I mistakenly used brake fluid to refill it after replacing clutch line damaged in a crash. Brake fluid causes the seals to expand. The slave cylinder siezed. Nasty.

And "Yes" you are right. I would have known that if I had read the service manual or, indead, the wee note on the fluid cover. (Bright black on a black background)

Woohoo - clutch failure is a warranty repair

Took bike into garage because clutch was slipping. Wasn't any of the standard faults (handguard, too much fluid, slave reservoir etc). Was really worried I'd worn it out in 19000 miles. Just had clutch go on Ford Mondeo (expensive). So I was really glum at having no cash for months. But hurrah, it sounds like the seals had gone and contaminated the clutch. And its under warranty...

:oonyack :D :beerjug: :thumb2 :clap

Now does anyone have a nice original 12GSA screen they want to sell?
