I have just ordered a new GS :bounce1 :bounce1 (four months' wait here in Oz :mmmm ), and my glossy 48 page GS brochure doesn't list chrome pipes as a factory option.
Are there any other options available ex-factory (rather than dealer fitted) that are not commonly publicised ? (All GSs in Oz have ABS, handguards and heated grips, wire wheels a no-cost option)

I found out some time after taking delivery of my 1150GS in '00 there were different gearbox ratios available, and would like to be aware of ALL the options this time.

Cheers,

Phil

Hello Phil,

Is that 4 month wait for an Adventure? I was lucky enough to test ride one a few weeks ago, and quite liked the Bike Computer, which I think is an option, but is not mentioned on the www.motorcycles.bmw.com.au website. Is the computer mentioned in the 48 page brochure?

Andrew

G'day Andrew,
It's a four month wait for a standard GS if you're concerned about colour combos, etc., part of which will be due to the annual European holidays. I really hope I don't end up with a "built on the last day before four weeks' holiday" bike :eek :eek :eek :eek
There's no mention of the computer in my brochure, but I've had it for quite a while.

Phil

Well Phil, I wish you all the best waiting for the new bike...

I don't know if the computer is available on the standard 1200GS - I haven't heard of it. The 1200ST that I had as a loan bike today had the same computer, plus electrically adjustable suspension. Probably both gimicks, but still fun to play with.

The only factory option worth having is yellow, improves performance, uses less fuel, better tyre life, makes girls underwear fall off... well maybe thats a slight exaggeration but you get the drift...yellow.....right......so its yellow so!

Phil - mine just arrived, there is a lot of misconception of what you are getting here in OZ. Heated grips, chrome exhaust, driving lights and computer are "standard" - but you have to pay for all except the grips and the white blinker lenses. ie they are "standard at cost". eg. the chrome exhaust you want adds around another $175 to the cost. No choice on the tyres, they come with the knobbies. ABS does not come as standard, you are looking at another $1800 approx. for that. I pick mine up next week (ordered it and payed a deposit approx. 4 months ago) - but I still have no idea on what it is going to finally cost. Today I was told the accessory socket I ordered has come, pannier locks are there - I ordered the rack and it has arrived (another cost option) - but...... NO PANNIERS!!!!!! And BMW Aus has no idea when they are going to arrive. Not sure if this helps, regards Graham

G'day Graham,
I would reckon you're talking about your GS Adventure ; I was asking about options for the "standard" GS.
Bit surprising the GSA doesn't come with ABS as standard ; I heard that BMW Australia's policy was that all bikes would be delivered with the ABS. Wrong again !
Enjoy the new bike,

Phil

Hi Phil - my mistake, I made an assumption on the 4 month wait and didn't read your post enough. I would have enjoyed it more if it had of come with panniers as per the order months ago. I am leaning towards geting the Hepco & Becker ones. The 2 x $290 brackets, the $59 cross tube and lock set will offset the cost. Shame for the dealer tho as he will have to unbolt the brackets etc. And I thought I had the options covered. regards Graham
