1200GS...goodboy!

Took a ride down to the coast for some lunch today and whilst going along the A29 near Pullborough got caught up by some guys on sports bikes. As there was a fair amount of trafic and not wanting to over take anywhere illegal or too dangerous as the otherhalf was on board the guys were obviously getting impaitent and started overtaking over solid white lines. Well 3 of them had got past me by the bottom of Bury Hill with another just off my back wheel, luckily all the cars stayed in the inside lane whilst we went past in the other lane. What do you know the first series of sharp bends we get to I have to throttle off as I am getting a bit close. Next straight they pull away slightly then next bend I am right behind this guy on his R6 he finally moves over and I leave him and his mate behind me. I almost catch the other 2 as well before they pull away over the top of the hill, although I am not far behind them when they pull into the car park near the roundabout (still no sign of the others, must have been bike trouble ). How do they feel getting over taken by an old BM 2-up and with a top box on
Now I am nothing special as a rider so it just shows how good the GS can be against a poorly ridden sports bike

We go round the roundabout and head on towards Bognor and I give the tank a pat and say 'goodboy' with a big smile on my face.

I'm not a very skilled driver and once or twice per year I go to a "curve and brake" training session on a race track. If the weather is dry I go there on my TKC80.

It's a GREAT experience to:

1. Se the faces of the guys on Hayabusa etc when they see this old man on a BMW with offroad tires joins the red (fastest) group.

2. Se the faces of the guys on Hayabusa etc when they see this old man on a BMW with cross tires passing them in a curve with only one hand on the handlebar.

It happend to me 2 years ago in the Pyrennees a couple 2-up on a 1150GS with luggage came past me and the wife on a bend whilst on my Fazer 1000, couldn't belive it

Nice one mate, it happened to me when I was on my Gixer 750 in France, bloke came past 2up, topbox as well. I can tell you how those guys on their sportsbikes felt, p*ss*d off, just like I did. Gave chase and caught him eventually, but tbh I was riding on the edge in some of those twisties, his body language told me he was laughing his head off at me, bollox.

And that is one reason I now have a GS12, and I'm off to France in a couple of weeks to do some hunting

Know What You Mean!!

Out today too, up to Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales. Myself on the trusty GS12 and a mate on his 15 year old Hawk 650. First proper ride on a dry road in ages just chilling out. Came across a gaggle of R1's, GSXR's ect, they all upped the anti on our arrival, first set of difficult bends GS12 and aged Honda Hawk go flying round the outside. Funny thing is we were just taking it relatively easy!! I love the GS even after a fair few teething problems, it's just so great to ride especially on bumpy bendy Dales roads!! My previous bike (Honda Firestorm) was a nightmare on these roads, the GS just laps it up and begs for more!!

Holy shit, Schtum, and I thought the Vara site was unfriendly if ya rode somethin different, but that one takes the biscuit, they don't like us much do they. Why do they all suddenly think we began ridin a GS because of Ewan and Charlie. They have a right cheek criticising, old men in Rallye suits. I thought it was a hell of a lot better looking than 50yr olds in power Ranger suits.

Well I do have a VFR as well and I do wind them up about how much better the GS is on my favourite goat tracks and I do have Super Moderator rights on there and I do wind up the semi-literate ones about their use of language and I'm now of the opinion that the troll ACG is my mate Dave who's currently on an oil rig in the Caspian Sea.......

Ohh and I do take the piss out of lots of them something rotten. So it's all just envy and sour grapes you see. In the nicest possible way, of course....

We all mock other bikes. Some do surprise especially in the enviroment they were designed for

It's by no means as straight forward as that. I think that if you were to come and ride with the hard-core Scottish contingent of the VFR Club you'd get a real surprise. The roads need to be twisty, bumpy, pock marked and preferably peppered with grit before you'll begin to make much headway over a well ridden VFR, especially since there are some guys who can still scrape the pegs of the VFR even when the road is like that.
