1200GS? - MAKING A MISTAKE?

This site is notorious for shouting down YOU for being a repetitive cock.

Couldn't have put it better myself Marcus! :D All this twaddle from someone who sold his GS months ago (assuming he actually owned one in the first place)and yet still keeps on coming back. He has become more pathetic than Jimb, something I never thought possible! :D :D

am report my findings...

NOTE :Mine as not a FULL software update and should not have altered the engine management

Accessory socket shutting down- FIXED. My sat nav and Autocom, which takes its power from the back of the accessory socket, now stay powered up

Servo brakes altered ??- well I am not sure about this one- either I have a fault... or the software has changed things. I now need more of a pull on the lever to stop the bike. The braking is not as aggressive, which many do not like and perhaps more 'hydraulic' in feel. NOt sure if I like this. I actually liked the two finger power that I used to have. I can hear the servo working, but it is just not the same . Anyone else found this and if so do you prefer it? I will contact my dealer tomorrow and see if my 'feelings' are correct

ABS- never needed them so do not know, but I read in the October BIKE magazine, when reviewing the R1200R that "BMW have continually refined their anti lock system and on the R, as on other BMW's, the rear ABS cuts in early."

Just me is it?

Bob Southgate: Pussy? Enough said

Is that the best you can do? You could do better of course. You could tell us more about the 1200 you allegedly owned and got shot of just when you found this site, tell us which dealer you allegedly purchased it from. Or you could just :stopbeing and go off to some other forums where your talents would be appreciated, such as www.Iamacock.com :D

I've got an '05 1200GS with 13k miles . Coming home from a day out on Saturday the revs suddenly increased, I was in sixth gear at the time, it was as if the clutch was pulled in with no drive. Was going to stop but as I changed down to fifth everything appeared OK. I thought I had best have a check only to find that there was no drive in 6th, 4th , 3rd , or 2nd . First & 5th where the only two working.

It just gets worse and worse

Exactly the same happened to me, going along at 80mph in sixth and lost all drive. Only had 1st and 5th.

Trouble was I was in Slovenia 900miles from home.

I flew home, the bike followed and needed a complete new box.

Subsequently sold.

And worse......

sound like it could be the fuel pump sender unit ...the seals are faulty on a lot of bms and continue to be after two years the housing fills up with water and corrodes the unit well worth checking i think

My God its never ending

OK tiresomeone, now go look at some of the positive remarks. Ooops! Sorry, you can't manage positive can you :mmmm

Yep you have. This site is notorious for shouting down dissenters. The bike is riddled with design and mechanical faults. It cannot take hard work and costs way too much for a naked bike in the first place.

Ive got a 12 from the first batch 04 and its now on 24K and going strong, totaly in love with it and didnt feel the need to replace it! :thumb

Live a little and keep your order you will love it :D :D :D

gs 1200

my 2005 gs has done 30000 miles in 17 months with 2 headlight bulbs and a leaky diff, this was replaced straight away , i am delighted apart from that,

Nothing of note gone wrong with mine 06

....and now I take twatoone of my c*nt list I see he's been a little liberal with the actualité of his quotes. I've been misquoted, so I suspect others have too. F'kin troll.

Picked up my 1200GS in Oct 05. I had previously owned a BMW R850 from new. This was an awful bike beset with problems (even though a model that's been in production for a while) but I thought I'd give BMW another chance.
-After 3 months with my GS the front headlight blew (a minor problem I know but what car would this happen on?).
-The battery died mysteriously one afternoon and I had ridden it over 50 miles that morning.
-After 6 months, I was riding along the motorway at 70mph when the engine just cut out forcing me to take rather hairy evasive action (only narrowly missed death). Apparently this was the fuel pump's fault which had become corroded with water and inactive. This is now a recall matter.
-After 9 months, the abs/servo pump died, leaving me with a modicum of braking power for my remaining journey.

BMW have lost it. Hate to say it but buy a Honda and it will never go wrong.
