24K miles 08 GS and the oil can symbol appeared on LCD on the on-board computer.
After switch off and restart it doesn't appear until some time later (time varies) so dropped in to dealer when out for a drive on Saturday (2nd day of this occurence) and they had no idea why, said they'd never seen it happening before!
They checked oil level for me (like I didn't know how to do that) and that was that really.
I decided to change oil and filter although it was done at last service in November and on-board display says next service- Nov 12.
I don't particularly like leaving the oil for a year, especially as I use it every day for commuting, so happy to change it after 6months.
Anyway- surprise surprise, the little oil can symbol persists!
Dodgy sensor? (I assume it comes from the float sensor and not the pressure switch)
Does it just need reset?
Is it more serious?
Can't be arsed with the hassle of more travelling to the "local" dealer 35miles away for a £25 sensor but if it could be serious then I will.
Anyone any thoughts???

Dippy- I assume it's a level indicator- the oil can symbol has wavy lines below it.
I read somewhere that a pressure warning is either a light or no wavy lines on the oil can symbol.
Of course if it's a level indicator then the sensor is just a float so I'd say it wouldn't work unless the engine is NOT running.
Always ready to stand corrected though.

Yeah, IME ignore it.

I had a '08 plate ('09 spec) and around the 40K/50K mark it started throwing the same 'Oil low' errors; when you check the oil level, its fine. I was rather more inclined to believe the sight glass level reporting.

ISTR the oil sensor was around the 100 sterling mark inc. labour.

So I ignored it and carried on as normal, a few 000K later it stopped complaining and all was well ever since.

Oil level is checked with the engine up to temp and running,:rob
