1200GS Popping and a Fartin!

Mine did it more with the standard headers and can, since I fitted Keihan headers and Akro can it doesnt seem to do it much, gutted , just fitted a Accelerator Module, with a bit of luck that will bring back the poppin and a fartin on the overrun

It will probably pop and bang more with the Accelerator in, I did a test with/without and it was MUCH better with!!!

The Offenbach exhaust now plays proper music!

I thought the popping on overrun was because they run quite lean,cat less headers will make it even leaner and risk pre ignition,thats why they have an anti knock fitted,good super unleaded like v power helps in the same way the acc mod does ,back fires on overrun is bad news for valves

so a bit of a pop in the exhaust system is bad for valves but the full blown bang of the combustion is ok? Where on earth did you hear that from? it also has nothing to do with preignition its unburnt fuel in the exhaust, when it works its way out the system it finds some oxygen and ignites in the hot gasses/cat. Mostly caused as one guy said by the fuel cut on a closed throttle and then opening the throttle by just a crack.

Popping on overun...

...is going to be caused by unburnt fuel in the exhaust igniting where it shouldn't.
If you think about the design of the valve, it is experiencing pressures from the rear of the valve - not as designed so damage is possible.

My VTR that had two big bastard carbs on it would do a passable impression of a shot gun if the kill switch was cycled on overun, that gave flames out of the rear!!
Shouldn't really happen with FI though..

other than the fact that the exhaust isnt sealed so there is no real pressure. Trust me it wont damage a valve, all 1200 GS's do it and if it was a problem everyone would be having valve problems.

I may try the standard can back on to see if it will return
