1200GS safety recalls

I was puzzled that there had been 2 safety recalls in Oz and the USA but none reported in the UK on the official govt website. Was this a govt cock up - or are we second class compared to US citizens when it comes to safety issues?

Anyway I chased the agency involved (VOSA) , eventually having to use my local MP . VOSA checked back with BMW and have now listed the recalls for the UK on their website. They say that "the work will be carried out free of charge".

But who was it that forgot? Have people had recall letters months ago (fuel pump O ring and throttle cable) and long since dealt with the problem, or was it BMW trying to do the whole thing on the quiet?

Nor me , 54 plate end of Jan '05 bike.
 
No letters either on a March 05. My VIN No. does not appear to be covered by the recall however so would not expect one?

What was the fault with the throttle cable?

There is a small plastic part that prevents a small rock from getting wedged into the t-cable. A few bikes did not have them. Both of mine do. The dealers in the US just do it at out 600 mile service. Last time I visited a dealer, they checked the o-ring and found it was ok. They had to install a new one as the old one was ruined. I never recd. a letter, it was just done.

Fuel pump and throttle cable recalls have been around for ages. Fuel pump applied to early models; not sure how many the throttle cable applied to. Both done on mine a long time before I sold it. Just done by dealer as and when.

Had a recall notice from the dealer by post (Pidcocks) for the fuel pump O ring, didn't get one for the throttle mod but then maybe my bikes not affected (I think dealers may be doing this when the bike comes in for service). I wouldn't class either problem as a safety issue although I suppose a sudden loss of power could have bad consequences.
