If this is in the wrong section apologies - just had the Remus headers fitted to my 2009 GS and the bloke that fitted them (local garage - not BMW dealer)said that he tested the bike before fitting and found that the engine stuttered badly in 1st/2nd when giving it full throttle and that a warning light came on, when he shoved it on the diagnostics it came up with an immobiliser fault. He then reset it, fitted the headers and took it for another test ride and again, on giving it large, the same thing happend.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Try disableing the traction/abs while stationary ,with engine running so that the triangle comes on and it says brake failure on the dash.

Go out for a run then and try again, mine does that stutter thing when you nail it sometimes i think its the traction coming into play, i just turn it off and it seems fine.

Just an idea i may be wrong :nenau

Try a TPS reset routine, a mates bike did the same until the TPS reset.

Try running it on a tankfull of Shell 98Ron petrol.

My bike is silky smooth on that fuel, rough as a badgers arse on cheapo supermarket stuff.:nenau

Shell costs a tiny bit more, because like Loreal, it's worth it.:thumb

Turn on ignition but DONT start the engine.

Slowly roll throttle fully open - fully closed for 3 full cycles.

Turn off ignition.

Turn ignition back on and start engine. Ride and enjoy.

Has it got a stutter now

Call me cynical but why would a workshop carry out a road test using “full throttle” in first and second gear! Prior to carrying out any work on the bike? Did it stutter prior to having the Remus fitted? If not then could it be that the workshop has damaged one of the Lambda sensors when changing the pipe and are now trying to say the bike had the problem prior to them working on it. Only a thought!

I agree with duds - seems a little strange for a garage to conduct a test before they do anything. Was it ok on your ride to the garage?

Could it simply be the traction control (if fitted to your bike) cutting in?

The reason for the pre Remus header fit test was so that they could get a comparison after the fitting - they say they have never had a problem like this before but they have only done work on the pre 2008 bikes so maybe ther is a difference in the set-up between the two?

But I agree that was my first thought that maybe the garage had done something - i've never wanged it that hard in first I normally wait til I get to second or third.

I have to say though with the Remus headers and Akropovic can it does seem far more responsive and alot quicker, with the engine sounding alot less "gratier" (gratier is the best way I can describe how it seemed to me before hand).

Thanks for all you input - food for thought. - What is the TPS reset and what does it do?

TPS = Throttle Position Sensor.

If the battery is dosconnected, or anythign fiddled around with, it needs resetting so the computer can "learn" the new range of the throttle. This is non-technical speak, obviously!

I noticed today that my GSA was a tad lumpy on tickover and seemed a shade under the weather so I carried out the TPS reset as described above and low and behold life is lovely again :thumb

Strangely everything had been working fine. It was only when I was poodling through traffic that I noticed a hesitation and lack of power. Battery has not been disconnected and the bike started fine this morning, it just started running a bit lumpy when filtering :nenau

How queer :ymca

+1
ill be doing a TPS rest before leaving work and see what happens!
:beerjug:

Sometimes garages do not let the bike scroll through its checks before setting off, IIRC this can cause a temporary error. Hence why it never happened to you

Have they been hitting the rev limiter?
