Hi, this is my first posting as a member so please be gentle with me!

Has anybody carried out the 1200GS to GSA tank conversion? (http://www.r1200gs.info/howto/tank-conversion.html)
I am looking to do this as I have found that a greater tank range would be useful in Europe. My '04 1200 GS has not misssed a beat in the 14000 miles that I have put on it and as funds are quite tight I cannot afford to trade in for an adventure.
I wonder if anybody could help me with my first query. I have managed to get hold of a late model (I think) tank. It has seven bolt holes at the filler neck with a teardrop shaped filler hole, whereas mine has six and a round filler hole. I did a quick test fitting this weekend and the tank appears to fit on the bike as it should. Would changing just the filler cap/pipe enable this tank to be used or am I asking for trouble? If necessary I shall have to sell it on and buy a early tank.
Any other helpul advice, hints, tips or downfalls would be much appreciated before continuing.

If the tank is from an '06 or '07 ADV then it should be fine, but if it is from a later one you may find that the original coloured panel from your bike won't be compatible.

try touratech they do add on tanks either side of your original an still looks good without sourcing adventure tank an maybe hassle???? av a look :thumb2

Thanks. I did have my suspicions about the bodywork issue - the tank is from an '08 model.

The touratech tanks look ok but are more expensive. I don't fancy drilling the original tanks as I would like to revert back to standard when it comes to sell the bike on.

surprised the 08 tank actually fits as they changed the front subframe a fair bit. Tank is also very different to the older models in shape.

That was my thought exactly, to be fair the front mounts are thicker than the old ones but other than that it all lines up. Even the painted tank cover piece appears to fit OK.
